“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you John 5:43 As former adventists, we know how this text applies to us. Our former church has it's persecutors and enemies who scorn us and carry a war against us, and we are commanded to pray for them instead of hating them, as we normally are set up to do. At the same time, their usually violent reaction betray the fact that they are under the Holy Spirit's conviction, and this works as an encouragement for us to continue praying for their repentance and conversion. As long as they are still alive, we may entertain hope for them. But when they die, it's a sad day, as it is this case. After midnight on Saturday, December 20, Samuele Bacchiocchi breathed his last breath. According to his son, the funeral services will be held this coming saturday, December 27, at 4:00 pm at the Pioneer Memorial Church on the campus of Andrews University, Berrien Springs, Michigan. Ironically, he will be buried on saturday, in contradiction with his teaching regarding funerals on saturday..... Gabriel | ||

According to the Bacchiocchi family news release at www.biblicalperspectives.com this afternoon, the immediate family is refusing to wait for the verdict of the investigative judgment for his salvation. They are already proclaiming him as on the verge of enjoying eternal bliss. His legacy includes confronting the fact that Ellen White failed to cite the Islamic threat in the last days, and his consistently keeping all the sabbaths (feast days) of the Old Covenant. A 4 pm funeral in Berrien Springs, Michigan would likely make the interment of Dr. Bacchiocchi after sundown or even delayed until the next day. This will be an improvement over the mock burial of Ellen White on Saturday afternoon, July 24, 1915. Oh yes, the funeral for James White was also on Saturday, but they actually buried him the same afternoon. After the mourners left the traditional graveside service for Ellen White, the mortician put her body into storage for 33 days. She was finally buried on Thursday, August 26, 1915. The White Estate claims they don't know why the interment was delayed so long. One theory is that they were afraid that Dr. John Kellogg would exhume her body and perform a brain autopsy on her. In many ways it feels like the end of an era. I can hardly remember when I didn't know about Bacchiochi and his research at the Vatican, his dissertation, and the pope's own imprimpatur on it. Because of his research and degree from the Vatican, Bacchiochi was touted as a true authority on the Adventist version of Sabbath being changed to Sunday by fiat of the pope. I'm actually sorry to hear of his death, although it's not surprising given his history of liver cancer. I hope he knew Jesus... Colleen | ||

There are two things related to Bacchiocchi that come to my mind today: 1. He had the potential to be another Desmond Ford. He knew enough to understand that the RCC had not changed the sabbath from Saturday to Sunday. Imagine people hearing in the church that the world-renown expert on sabbath history disproved their myths of history. 2. Imagine that Dale Ratzlaff, not Bacchiocchi, died of liver cancer. In many adventists circles this will be seen as a judgment from God for his rejection of "the truth". It's really a miserable situation, because at any time, an adventist can die of cancer or any other fatal disease (nobody is immune) fearing that he's under God's punishment.
