Ask An Adventist - Adventism Question #14 Here is a question to ask your Adventist friends:Why do Adventists focus on highly symbolic and subjective apocalyptic writings rather than on such direct and powerful statements of Gospel as John 5:24, John 6:28-29, Romans 3:21-24 and Romans 4:4-8? Gilbert Jorgensen It has been 164 Years and 28 Days since October 22, 1844 |

That is a very good question. The cults all do that sort of thing, because they can't support their doctrine from straight-forward statements in the Gospels and Epistles. |

Answer (possible): "Because Jesus' life, death and resurrection is BORING but the speculations about beasts, horns, prostitutes riding beasts,666 names, frogs, locusts, unclean spirits, 1260 days calculations, anticipating the next move of the Pope, equipping with the latest survival kit, watching over the shoulder a possible Sunday law, "they're coming to get us" feelings, all these really make the blood pressure rise above the sea level. They're exciting, thrilling, and it's wonderful to be a super-Christian, knowing Bible secrets other carnal Christians don't have a clue about, it really makes you feel special. Why should talk about something that happened 2000 years ago, something that everybody knows, when we are up-to-date to the latest heavenly event since the throne of God started traveling from one part of the Sanctuary to another. And something that is special delivery for you, baby, which will scare you (for this excitement news you don't need to pay me, I'm gladly delivering it for free): You're sleeping with the enemy when you worship on Sunday instead of Saturday. But the really GOOD NEWS is that if you start keeping the Sabbath you may have a good chance to pass the investigation. Nothing is for free in this world, but we really appreciate what costs us a lot, isn't it? Why be saved for nothing (which is boring) when you can have a better appreciation for being saved after starving to death hiding from those demon-possessed wild-eye Sunday worshipers? We promise you the highest level of excitement and a trip which you'll never forget!!! Join us today and give us your money since we are in the last days and, paraphrasing your favorite apostle Paul, let those who have money live as though they had none." Exciting, huh? The opportunity of your life... Don't miss it. Gabriel |

When one is brought to a realization of his/her utter depravity and sinful hopelessness, the Gospel is the most INTERESTING thing that person hear. Please tell me again and Again and AGAIN throughout eternity of Jesus' overwhelming love, mercy, and grace that saved a wretch like me! Boring??? May it never be!!! The simple Gospel is only boring to those who thank God they are not like other men. |

And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. 2 Corinthians 4:3 |

Jackob—I'm laughing! Yup—I think you've adequately summed up the underlying feeling of being an observant Adventist. There's a lot of adrenalin involved...norepinephrine, the stress hormone. Intrestingly, we can develop addictions to our own stress hormones... I know my Adventist days were marked by an unrelenting (if fluctuating) existential anxiety. Freeatlast, I also love that last sentence:"The simple Gospel is only boring to those who thank God they are not like other men." Praise God for the truth!! Colleen |
