Hubby and I have in our library several very old publications of the Red Books by EGW. I have no intention of getting rid of them, because I am hoping to use them to document changes that have been made from older version to newer ones. Here is a list of the ones I have, followed by their copyright/publication dates: 1. Testimonies for the Church #2, 1928 2. Testimonies for the Church #4, no date shown 3. Testimonies for the Church #5, no date shown 4. Testimonies for the Church #6, 1901 5. Testimonies for the Church #9, 1909 Items number 2-5 are very old, so old that the pages are brown and brittle and the covers are loose and falling off. I assume items number 2 and 3 are approximately as old as the first decade of the 1900s, even though there is no copyright date found in them. Does anyone know of any documented "editing" that has been done after EGW's death on any of these books? I'd like to obtain a new edition and compare it with the old one, but I don't want to have to read through the books myself in order to find the "editing." Honestwitness |

How interesting, Honestwitness. I don't actually know much about the dates of editing done on her books. I'm sure there are others here who will have more insight and can point you toward answers, but what a rare collection you have! Colleen |

I don't have any special knowledge of what has been edited out etc, but we have inherited a red GC, inside pages say Copyright 1888 by Ellen G. White! Yep, she knew all the benefits of copyrighting her stuff even back then. Don't let the apologists tell you plagiarism was soooo common back then! |

Honestwitness, that is great! It is fascinating to notice the changes between versions. The White Estate, for example, claims that the later copy of the book Early Writings is intentionally published to present to the public those things that were edited out of earlier writings. Then they leave things out! What really floors me are all the footnotes. For example, the White Party had a totally different understanding of "the Three Messages" from what the Seventh-day Adventist Church teaches today. That is a fact. It's right in Early Writings! Then the White Estate footnotes it, and says in the footnote that everyone of that day "knew" what they meant, and that it is spelled out more clearly in Great Controversy! Such hypocrisy. It makes me want to vomit! It is flat-out deception of the highest order. I am keeping all my SDA publications as "evidence", and plan to provide comparisons on http://beyondadventism.com when I get time. The truth is the road to freedom. Gilbert Jorgensen It has been 162 Years, 10 Months, and 30 Days since October 22, 1844 PS: I shamelessly "stole" that phrase above, "The truth is the road to freedom." from one of Colleen's recent posts. It was to good to go to waste! |

Any time the estate footnotes any of her books, they are writing/adding on "holy ground" so to speak. Question is, is the estate inspired? Or do the estate become inspired enough to write in those books just because they can? Or does the estate un-inspire the whole ellen-book because they have sullied it with uninspired-mans thoughts and words? Isn't mixing inspired with uninspired exactly like mixing truth with error? Can I now go meddle with the Bible and it still be inspired? Wait a minute, that is what the Clear Wird is... |

Larry, You mean the "clear weird"? I have a copy of the "clear weird” I got suckered in for 20.00 by of my Adventist friends. Lets see, that’s 200.00 for a worthless 3abn dish, 20.00 for a “clear weird”, say does anybody have any beachfront property on the outskirts of Phoenix the would like to sell me. I think I will have “sucker” tattooed on my forehead. Speaking of beaches I just got back from it and I feel fine as frogs hair, thank God for a little R&R. Sometimes we just need to put everything aside and just rest our heads awhile. River |

River, I am laughing! And thanks for the term "clear weird". I'm gonna use it alot! I have a 3ABN dish and decoding box, and I need to sit down with the manual this winter and figure out how to get regular stuff with it. Once it malfunctioned for a coupla weeks, and we were getting all sorts of History channel, sports and stuff on it, then it all went away. But I am certain that the specific satellite carries much more than wimpy little 3abn. |

Honest My brother has suggested that older Adventist books may eventually be of interest in museums as relics of American made religion, not unlike JW and LDS. You make a good point about wanting to document editorial changes from the original versions. Think about the potential for educating others. I have found that it is useful to be able to quote short parts of Great Controversy and other books just to help SDAs and others understand Adventist teachings on topics such as the IJ, perfectionism, etc. Perhaps others will suggest additional uses for the Ellen's books, but seriously, I'd take special care of the older copies. Christian historians may well appreciate them someday. Bob |

I recently learned that the whiteestate located at Loma Linda would absolutely not supply a photocopy of "word to the little flock" I wanted it for all the original print style and format, I did not want the internet version that is all "perfect". Altho they read exactly the same. It is merely a matter of time, in my opinion, before they pull the internet version off of their website. Hence my need of an original photocopy. Colleen, can you pull any strings? |

Me? Ha! Maybe if I still worked for Adventist Today... At this point, with Richard having been fired from LLU just over a year ago because of Proclamation! and Life Assurance and this website, we're thorns in their sides. Nope--that's one place I won't be welcome... Sorry—that would be a good thing to obtain! Colleen |

Didn't they publish a facsimile a few years back? I think I have that packed somewhere. When I get all my books unpacked (hopefully before the holidays!) I'll look, Larry, and if it's true, I'll let you know and send you a copy. I know I have the little booklet, but not sure if it's the facsimile or not. Susan |

Hi Mark, I would appreciate anything with the whitestate Nihil Obstat and Imprimitur on it. I am particularly looking for the old style of printing look, with all the fancy old fashion letters, boarders, curly-ques and all that. I most desire something as close-looking to the original as possible. hmmmm, sounds like an sda statement doesnt it? from wikipedia: A "Facsimile Edition" in publishing is a new edition of an (often classic) book, in the form of an exact reproduction of the original edition, including the typeface and layout of the pages. Sounds good to me. Could I get a nice photocopy of it please? It is going to go real well with my 1 inch thick manilla folder with all my other photocopied lies. Underlined with -- you guessed it -- RED INK! Nihil obstat = Nothing stands in its way Imprimatur = Let it be printed |

Pastor Mark, is that the original copy that Brinkerhoff referred to, or the one available now? I would love to see it as well. By the way, do you have any idea what happened to the first 48 pages of A Solemn Appeal? Even the White Estate skips over that part in the publication they display on line. Ellen stated, for example, that sexual relations should be completely dispensed with during pregnancy. That portion though has been removed from what is searchable at the White Estate
quote:"The sexual passion is indulged during pregnancy, which causes the mother to transmit doubly of the direful ail to the offspring within her womb ... every orgasm expends of the mother's vitality a portion that should go to nourish and develop her babe. Very much of the weakness and lassitude experienced during pregnancy is due to the exhaustion consequent upon the sexual embrace, and the forming child must suffer from its effects: for the mother cannot impart what she does not herself possess, health and strength." Solemn Appeal p. 23

Gilbet, good example of attributing something given by God to death and evil. She is basically saying that sex, given by God, leads downhill. Or more simply, God wants you dead. Attributing something of Satan to God. Pure and simple. I am almost ready to give up believing in egw. |

Gilbet, at this link they state that they offer the "complete" published writings. Perhaps if you emailed them your concerns they would be happy to email you what is missing, maybe the whole thing! This is what I think they are going to do to all sensitive stuff that she wrote. Just pull it off the web, and very with few original copies floating around, they can deny her writings from a silence standpoint. When I google whiteestate, they are the first to come up on the results. Does anyone know if it costs them 50 cents per inquiry? I have heard something like this before, but I do not know for sure. Special links on their site are included in the google search. |

It's statements like the one above, Gilbert, that lead me strongly to suspect she was abused. Once she became a "visionary", she could make God Himself endorse her own fear and aversion and condemn what He created. This misuse of God is further evidence, to me, of the identity of the spirit behind her visions and dreams. Instead of submitting her fears and aversions to the Lord Jesus for His healing and forgiveness, she used "God" to justify her resentment and "moral superiority". Colleen |
