I want to be sure you all know that Richard just posted two new articles on the "Studies" page at the new Proclamation! website: www.LifeAssuranceMinistries.org. One is an excellent article on the Ten Commandments by the thoughtful writer Chris Badenhorst in Durban, South Africa. He has some insights I've never quite connected before. The other is an informative and also riveting inside look at the colporteur industry. It is called "Reviewing the Troops", and it is a restropsective by Dennis Fischer of his work as an associate publishing director in the Carolina Conference in the 1970's with an update on the current state of literature evangelism today. Excellent articles. I especially found Dennis' article on the colporteur industry fascinating. So they resell books that are soiled and in poor condition. Hmmmmmmmm. Everyday I find some new "dirt" on Adventism and I wonder why don't Adventists wake up and see what's going on? | ||

Reb, Because, for a myriad of reasons, they do not want to "wake up and see what's going on". It's called complacency. If you would like a few more superlatives, check out Ellen White quotes from Revelation 3 on Laodicea (in the back of SDA Commentary. Why Adventists hail her with such reverence is beyond me. She has some very nasty indictments regarding Adventism. If you don't have these books, I have it listed somewhere from 3 years ago when I left SDA. Let me know, I'll post it. steve | ||

I have a similar question regarding rule #9. I know that in the past I have posted one or more EGW quotes in a post, and it definitely was not just "a minor part of the post" (sometimes it was almost the whole post). We're going to try and make that rule clearer. The point of rule #9 is to avoid posting someone else's article, chapter, etc., instead of making one's point oneself. Fair use laws are hard to pin down, but they allow for reproducing material for critiquing, for quoting for purposes of education, etc. Yes, post away, Jeremy and Steve! Reproducing someone's e-book or entire sermon, etc., would be out of bounds--besides, we want your own opinions! If you want to share a complete work, simply link to it. Otherwise, the quotes most of us have been doing are just fine. Colleen | ||

Reb, Here's some of the stuff I looked up in SDA Commentary 3 years ago, while still an Adventist. Part of my journey out had to do with why Adventists do not talk about what Ellen had to say about them as Adventists. I leave you to your own conclusions. Speaking of Laodicea as Adventists, Ellen said they were "...lukewarm professors of religion...a constant weight to those who would be faithful followers of Jesus. They are a stumbling block to unbelievers." 1 T P188 Some of the terms EGW used to describe her contemprary SDA's: "tepid water, disappointing and nauseating" "...the sin that is most nearly hopeless and incurable is pride of opinion, self-conceit. This stands in the way of all growth." 7T, 199-200 "The spirit of God never enters a place where His presence is not felt" SDA Commentary on Rev 3. "...even though these keep the commandments and have the testimony of Jesus, they still need the white raiment of Jesus" Ibid. Referring to the eye salve in Rev 3, she said that "...the Holy Spiorit is the antidote for spiritual blindness. Its purpose is to expose spiritual blindness, see sin as God sees it, and realize their own spiritual condition - as a prerequisite to repentance". Ibid. "The church needs to drink deeply of the spirituality of the Word. Theri service to God needs to be very different from the tame lifeless, emotionless religious experience..." MS 117, 1902 "Christ cannot take up the names of their own self-sufficiency. He cannot importune in behalf of a people who feel no need of His help." RH, 7/23/89 "These sharp decided words do not mean me: I am in a faily good condition spiritually, though I may not have all the fervor and zeal that some have. I believe the truth - those to whom this message belongs may take it. I think some need it. You who think and reason thus, be assured that you are the very ones to whom this message belongs. " Letter 30a, 1892 "God's servants must, by laboring together with Christ, roll away the curse that has made the chuch so lukewarm - a hope of reform." RH, 8/10/05 "...we are to show others how to repent". MS 92, 1901 Here's my favorite EGW quote of all time: "As a people we are certainly in great danger if we are not constantly gaurded, of considering our own ideas, because long cherished, to be Bible doctrines and on every point infallible, and measuring everyone by the rule of our interpretation of Bible truth. This is our danger, and this would be the greatest evil that could ever come to us as a people." 1888 materials Vol. 2, p 830 One thing that got me out of Adventism is that they don't believe their own stuff. I tried to talk to so many Adventists about this when still in the church. They simply don't care. So, I asked them, where is your truth? They do not know.
