I've been in and out for a while. My wife and I just sat down last night to watch the SDA Spirit Behind the Church video from Jeremiah Films. She was very critical of the film because of the demeanor and attitude of some of the people. Please pray that God's will be done. I am desperate for the truth, and have considered leaving my family as a last result. |

Abundantrest, I will be praying for you and your family. God is in control. He knows what we need to surrender, how we need to trust, how best we are to honor Him and how we personally must make decisions in order to live in sacrificial love for one another. Pray that God will show you how to love your wife for Him. Pray that Jesus will be more real to you than the frustration, and pray that He will glorify Himself in your situation. And then thank God for being in control and for what He is doing that you cannot see. Ask Him to hold you in truth and reality and to trust Him. Praying for you, Abundantrest. Colleen |

Hi Abundantrest, Love the name! Jesus, Abundantrest is desperate for truth. You are Truth, so please come to him now, at this moment. Please give him peace, and especially hope for his situation. I pray for the miracle for his wife, for her eyes to be opened, for the same miracle that set many of us here free. I pray for the faithfulness of her husband to be rewarded. Amen Sara |

Good day, Abundantrest, My prayers for you and your family. This will be a tough time since one of you is ready to move on out of Adventism and one (apparently) is not. I don't doubt that the video upset your wife. Both my wife and I found it over the top and we had both already studied enough to be familiar with the errors of Adventism. It is not a video I would suggest for SDAs that have questions but are undecided. I think it would be more appropriate for those that have already decided to leave. I let two people that had recently left the local SDA church watch my copy. Both were shocked by some of the things revealed and it confirmed for them the rightness of their decision to leave. I doubt it would have the same effect on an SDA that was 'questioning' but undecided. I pray with Sara that your wife's eyes will be opened to the truth as it is in Jesus. Be faithful. God is in control and your actions (and reactions) can do much to demonstrate the love of Jesus to your wife. ISO |

Here's how it went down. The wife and I stayed up late watching the SDA Outreach video. We took notes together, and we are supposed to research the quotes in context to make sure they aren't taking them out of context, etc. Their demeanor and attitude really offended her, which was predictable. In addition, she went to the bathroom at one point and came back asking if I was going to leave the church. I told her that I simply wanted to follow the truth, that I wanted Jesus, more than anything else in my life. She asked if I wanted that, even if it meant that we would have no where to go to church, and I said yes, because I'm not into "social club" religion. I want the truth as it is in Jesus, and nothing else, period! I told her that I think she is scared that she is going to find some things that are going to be true about EGW and the church, and she doesn't want to leave the church. She admitted she worries because she thinks I'm simply looking for an excuse not to go to church. I told her again, I'm looking for the truth. If EGW is truth, then great ... if not, then great. I want Jesus Christ ... at all costs. I just don't see any real hunger and desire for Christ, but maybe, just maybe, I'm wrong. I think to her the church is more important that the truth because it is her support network. As for me, I would rather have Jesus than all the friends in the world. I told her that as well. |

I'm not familiar with that video. I remember reading "Project Sunlight" with my wife some years ago which relates to the terrors of the endtimes and the typical fear that your friends and even your spouses may turn against you and not hold to the Sabbath truth...which is why I hold back a lot of my opinions with my wife, until I get more familiar with the concepts of grace and such. Losing a loved one to Babylonish teachings validates in that person's mind that EGW's prophecy that many will fall away is true, and your loved one is among them... Hence the reason I hold back sharing what I know. I'm thinking my wife would react the same as yours. Praying for you. Jason |

Jason, thank you for sharing about the book Project Sunlight. I read it years ago, but promptly forgot it. I wasn't raised in Adventism and joined the church because I was marrying my devout SDA husband. Hubby had told me that Project Sunlight was the first SDA literature he ever read, and he still holds fond memories of it. He probably thinks that its prophecy has come true for him, because I quit Adventism. However, I have continued to follow his pattern of Sabbath observance when we're together on Saturday, which I belive God instructed me to do. If I'm visiting non-Adventists on Saturday, however, I will go to restaurants, grocery stores, etc. with them or for them if necessary. I just don't tell hubby. * Sigh * So much brainwashing to be overcome. I'm so glad to know that God is in control. Honestwitness |

Abundantrest and Zjason, I understand the thinking process you describe in your wives. I remember when I would have probably felt the same way. The fear of one's husband walking away from truth into a "deception" is so profound, the desire to know Jesus even seems like an excuse and a delusion. I know that my in-laws react to us in this way. Prayer is the only antidote—and consistently loving them. I don't believe you should pretend you're NOT sutdying, but respecting their position while pursuing your own and NOT pulling away from them nor relentlessly bombarding them with your findings (although sharing sometimes when it's indicated) is propbably your best course. Praying for you both! Colleen |

I believe the "Spirit Behind the Church" video is very good for never-been-Adventists, to see what Adventism is really like. I also agree with the strong stand that the cult expert (Steve Cannon, of Personal Freedom Outreach at the time) takes on the satanic doctrine of the scapegoat that Adventism teaches:
quote:"Truly, the salvation for the Seventh-day Adventists, placing sin upon Satan, is not the salvation taught in the Bible."
Personal Freedom Outreach (PFO) also has an endorsement of the video on their website, from their January-March 1999 editon of The Quarterly Journal, a couple portions of which are as follows:
quote:This hard-hitting and powerful video is a real eye-opener. If anyone had questions as to where Seventh-day Adventism stands as Christian or cult, this video will clear that up. [...] The history of Seventh-day Adventists is laid out and the “visions” of White described. She went so far as to say that her mistakes were God’s mistakes. White even taught that Satan is the sinbearer. --http://www.pfo.org/eg-white.htm

I went to a Womens Bible study today and one lady told how, when she lived in Calif. she and her husband belonged to a Bible study group of 6 couples. One Friday they received a call asking them to come to one couples home on Sat. night--it turned out no one had other plans and they all came. The husband had his bags packed and was ready to leave, but wanted the group to pray with them about it. She said there were no harsh words, just a discussion and prayer and more discussion and more prayer and about 1 a.m. the man said "I'm staying" and it was a wonderful experience for everyone. We can't be there to be so intense but we can all ask God for help. And thank God that he sends his Holy Spirit to work on our hearts and minds! Peggy |
