Yesterday at hubby's SDA church, we watched a video sermon by Doug Bachelor entitled, "The Great Judgment Day." Whew! That man really talks fast. I was trying to take notes, but I couldn't keep up.

At one point in the sermon, Bachelor quoted a Bible verse (I can't remember which one.) and immediately said, "The Bible doesn't really say that." Then he kept on going at breakneck speed.

Do any of you have a CD of that sermon that you would be willing to look at to see if my memory is playing tricks on me or not? I hate to subject you to that, but if you're willing, it seems like it was somewhere in the middle of the sermon.

I mentioned this to hubby, and want to make certain I'm not getting my facts wrong before I say anything more to him about this. He, of course, didn't notice it.

After the service I spoke to one of the church members and she was so impressed with that sermon and said she'd like to have a copy of it. I asked her, "Did you find reassurance from that sermon?" She answered, "Yes, I did." I asked, "So, do you feel assurance you will be in heaven?" Then she said, "I hope so!"

So I shared with her what 1 John 5:13:

"These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God."

I told her that in the Greek, that word "know" is so empatic that it means "know that you know that you know." She politely agreed, but then stated that God will still be working us on until He returns or we die. I politely agreed, but restated my reminder that our salvation is secure because of Jesus' work on the cross.

We were then distracted by other people, so our conversation ended. I pray for her that the Lord will compel her to look in her Bible for verification of what I said.

Somtimes I think all that dope Doug Batchelor took before he became an Adventist started to fry his brain, and then Adventism finished the job.

I saw a Doug Batchelor video last summer at Adventist Church that was about the "End Times", based on, of course, EGW's Great Controversy.

It showed the Adventists being chased into the mountains by Catholics and "Babylon" Protestants.
It showed the anguish of these Adventists during the time of "Jacob's Trouble" where they were without Christ as mediator and couldn't remember their sins or sure if they really were saved.

Then it showed the resurrection of the "wicked". i.e all non-Adventists where they were being annihiliated. The "fire" coming down from heaven raining down on them looked like little, flaming meteorites.

This video was even shown in front of little children and I though it was awful to show them something like that that could really scare them(isn't this a form of spiritual abuse?)
My son and I both agreed were it not for little kids being subjected to seeing that we thought it was so ridiculous it was almost funny.

I watched the video "The Great Judgement Day." Here is what struck me. Mr Bachlor talks about James 2:8-13 and stated that the "law" that we are to speak and act as if we are going to be judged by is the Ten Commandments. Does this reference to the "law" not speak to the Royal Law?

This seems obvious that it is not the Ten Commandments that judge a Christian, but the higher standard we are held to. Not only can I not murder, but I can't hate. Not only can I not commit adultery, but I should not lust after another.

I know we all have talked about the veil that cover those who look to the law, but I would like to think of it as more of the "Iron Curtain." It seems much stronger than a mere vail.

My 2 pennies.

I certainly didn't have that total assurance of salvation back when I was an Adventist. I'm not sure that Adventists CAN be saved since they go back to part of the old covenant. It seems like they might be bypassing Jesus when they do that, though I'm not sure.

They seem to put the Sabbath as more important than Jesus. That's not good.
