I have a question. Is there anyone on this board who is Indonesian and left the SDA Church or is thinking about it? I don't know if you guys are aware that most of the Indonesian Community in SoCal, probably 80% are SDA. As my wife is Indonesian and SDA I am part of the Indonesian SDA community in Southern California. Also, the Indonesian SDA churches and Indonesian SDAs tend to be very conservative and historic in their Adventism. I am really worried, especially for my wife's sake because I love her so much that my leaving the SDA Church is going to cause a huge scandal in the Indonesian Community in Southern California. For me, I am willing to bear the cross as my conscience is tugging at me to leave Adventism because it is false. I am concerned about how the fallout will affect my wife as I love her as Christ loves the Church and do not want to cause her pain. She is beginning to accept where I stand and that I am in the process of switching to the Seventh Day Baptist Church. So if any of you are SDAs of Indonesian background and left Adventism or are considering it, what was it like for you? What can I expect to happen to me within the Indonesian SDA Community? Thanks in advance for any answer. I feel like I have a really sticky wicket here. |

Reb, this is only my second post so bear with me. If you think you still need to worship on a Saturday, then you might be keeping the 10 commandments still, and putting yourself under the old covenant. I recommend the book by Dale Ratzlaff called "Sabbath in Christ". Very good. Expect a scandal. Positively. You cannot know and speak the truth without shocking lots of people. My own parents will not speak to me, and they are SDA from at least 50 years prior. I also have an SDA-blinded sister that will not speak to me. My wife and I have been called everything in the book practically. I think there is no sly way to make the transition. Either you believe in the truth or you don't! You will likely be snubbed, ostracized, and shunned by the Indonesian crowd at large, but realize this: it is the outplaying of the same spirit that got ahold of Ellen White still working its way through these people. Also expect there to be plenty of gossiping - another trait Ellen White indulged in, still playing its way out thru the modern generation. Good luck my friend. |

Thanks, Larry. I don't think I need to worship on Saturday, I want to. It's ok to worship on Saturday as much as it is on Sunday or any day. Whatever happens I can't go back to believing in EGW. |
