Hey U2... I think that maybe you should listen to the Newsboys while at work if you need to stay awake. Listening to something like the sabbath deal you mentioned, well you could hurt yourself!!! Ohmygoodness...That's J.L. Tucker with Uncle Dan and Aunt Sue! Those recordings were probably made in the 40s or 50s. Hearing that takes me back to working at The Quiet Hour in the early 80s. J.L. Tucker was still alive then, although he died during my three years there. When The Quiet Hour (TQH) celebrated its 50th anniversary, Richard designed the cover for the CD set of "Ask Uncle Julius" with Uncle Dan and Aunt Sue. Apparently they had collaborated years before and had produced these joint programs which you have now found and linked for us, U2bsda! Talk about taking me back to the day... Ikilgore, No, no danger there Listening to music would have put me to sleep - even the Newsboys!! Colleen, Wow, didn't know you and Richard had been involved. I was working late last night around 4:00 am and needed something to keep me awake! That did the job As a SDA listening to those I wouldn't have recognized how "stupid" they made the "Sunday-keepers". But on the other side of the veil, it comes across as a big set up to me! From the "I forgot" where the Sunday-keeper forgot that they should pray before studying to the studying all week and coming to the study with a single verse to saying their pastor at the Sunday church knowingly taught a lie about the Sabbath.... Well, there were a lot of problems. Are there actually any "Sunday-keepers" like that? I've never met any. | ||

Me either, U2bsda. Actually, most of the Christians I know really aren't "Sunday keepers". They just happen to worship on Sunday because that's when churches meet. Most people I know don't treat Sunday as a holy day, just a convenient day to do corporate worship. On this side of Adventism, the whole idea of "Sunday keepers" is annoying and disingenuous. We're not "keeping" Sunday! And you're right, U2...these scripts make the "Sunday keepers" look stupid. But then, as an Adventist, I would have had NO idea how to portray a "Sunday keeper" as a Christ-follower. I believed it was pretty much mutually exclusive, unless the "Sunday keeper" was a Pre-Adventist, inquiring into the Adventist truth. Colleen | ||

"Sunday keeper" is such a rediculous phrase! One of the first times I went to SDA church with my husband there was a woman there who would preach occasionally. She was real assertive with a big horse faced grin. I'll never forget her walking up to me with her hand out saying "You're the Sunday keeper" (I guess I was the talk of the church) To any lurking SDA's out there please let me make this clear. Those of us who are not SDA's but have been raised in Christian churches do NOT keep Sunday! Sunday is just another day to us, and we have the freedom to worship any or every day that we want. Know why? Because every day is the Sabbath rest in Jesus. Furthermore, we really don't care if you prefer to keep Sabbath. In fact, it's fine with us. We are never planning to to kill you or throw you in jail for worshipping on Sabbath. Considering how many Islams and Jews there are in this country and worldwide, that would be physically and financially impossible, and it's not something we're even interested in doing anyway! (stepping off the soapbox) Really, the only people I've ever heard of who "keep" Sunday are the Mormons. I've even heard them refer to Sunday as the Sabbath, which is that much more confusing. There are a few people I've run into who do believe that Sunday is the 'Christian's Sabbath' but these are nowhere near so common as SDA theology would lead us to believe. Mary | ||

I can think of only one person who considers Sunday the sabbath. It is the man who does my taxes. I went to him for the first time 3 years ago, right after I learned about EGW. I told him I could come in on a Sunday. His reply, Oh no, that is the Sabbath. Diana | ||

I have known many protestants who view Sunday as the Sabbath and will frown on those who do work on Sunday, of course that does not mean that they cannot slop the hogs, but it has been kind of amusing to me how many really do view Sunday as the Sabbath and in fact they do "keep the Sunday." I would like to ask all present in church this morning that question but my Pastor would nail my hide to the barn door. Heh Heh. So I will refrain. I tried to listen to the Uncle Julius tape. It makes the non SDA family sound so dumb. And to think I used to be like that, UGGH!!!!! I listened to some of the link that u2 gave and it just dawned on me what Adventist sound like. They sound flat, like a flat tire, I get the same feeling when listening to them as I get when I go out to get in my car and it has a flat tire. Like putting a silencer on a rifle, there is no sharp "craack" when you fire it, there is only a "Phhuut". Like hearing a singer off key. Like the flat voice of a robot.
