For the last to Easter weekends I have been blessed to attend the wonderful services at the large Baptist Church I now attend.
I have to say that the Good Friday service are the most spiritual services I have ever attended. It presents the awesomeness of Christ's sacifice in a way that brings tears to my eyes throughout the whole service.
Last year I invited a dear SDA friend to the Good Friday service, and she emailed me the next day commenting on what a wonderful blessing it had been for her. She noted that she even participated in the communion. She said as she looked around at all the people,she thought they were probably better Christians than she was. And then she commented that wouldn't it be amazing if they only knew about the Sabbath!! I had to smile to myself, and thanked God that she was willing to come to the program, and that maybe in some small way her eyes were opened and her understanding increased.
Easter Sunday services are now a highlight of the year for me. What an opportunity to praise our risen Saviour. He Lives Within My Heart.
I have been blessed that some of my family accepts my invitation to these services.

Nicole, great to see you! I don't know if you remember, but I'm in the same boat as you. I'm not sure if my husband still understands why we celebrate Easter so much, but he loves our family get-togethers, so he hasn't ever complained. I always feel like he just humors me.
You asked "still, why would adventism not place a huge emphasis on Christ's death and resurrection?"
That's one thing I've always wondered, however I've suspected that it's because they don't want to look too "Catholic"! (If that's the case, then maybe they should consider giving up Communion as well, hehe)
When I read through these posts Easter becomes even more of a celebration to me, even though it's always been huge in my life. I'm so grateful for my Formers here, who constantly remind me how much Jesus really does love me!

Colleen,
Thanks so much for starting this thread. It has been so exciting to read everyone's responses to what Easter means to them now. It has been very timely with the Easter season approaching. Can you imagine what it would be like if we as formers could all get together and celebrate Good Friday and Easter Sunday together? Someday in Heaven we will.

I have an idea. Maybe next year the FAF reunion can be on Easter weekend. Just a thought.
When it comes to Easter, I like to call it Resurrection Sunday. What God did for us is so awesome. I do not understand it, but it means that I have salvation and I am free in Christ. Christ freed me from sin and that is awesome. I am sure it means other things to me, that I do not think of what at this time.

Diana, it wouldn't be possible to have the FAF reunion on Easter and also have Greg and Mark presentóthey'd need to be at their own churches for Good Friday and for the stepped-up work associated with Easter. Our own church wouldn't be able to let us use the facilities that weekend, either.
We're planning it for the the same President's Day Weekend againóeveryone gets a Monday off, so it makes some built-in travel time. |

This may have been implied but not in so many words.
If you worship the day Jesus was dead and ignore the day he was resurrected...
Wouldn't you be celebrating the dead Jesus, instead of the resurrected Jesus?
This is kind of spooky when you think about it. |

Also, if someone believes that the "eternal" Jesus was annihilated on the Cross and ceased to exist--then wouldn't they now be worshipping a (new "re-created") Jesus that is less than 2,000 years old and not eternal? In fact, this "new" Jesus is not even as old as Abraham.

Jeremy, you made this point in the thread about body, soul, and spirit. It smacked me right between the eyes. Excellent point!
