When my in-laws were visiting us in Colorado Springs this last year, it was quite a visit. My husband and I enjoy an occasinal glass of wine,so my husband knowing they were coming hid all our wine in the garage. Because they may be offended! When Idrank coffee in front of them, they went over to coffee maker and complained the smell was making them sick to their stomachs! Then on Sabbath they went to church with my husband, the girls and I no longer attend church there. That was very upsetting to them. The fact that I was doing laundary that day pushed them over the edge! They told me I was deliberitly defying their belief on true sabbath rest. I thought in my head this is my house, not theirs, I'll do as I please! So anyway a couple days later my mother-in-law took my daughter Olivia to the park, they were great spirit! My mother in-law sat down and told me had witnessed to some people about the [Sabbath truth], and she was going to be sending them some tracts and booklets regarding this belief! I asked her were they any certian religion, she said they were not active in any church. So I asked did you witness to them about Jesus Christ[considering these people were'nt active in any church].She said in the sabbath tracts they will learn about Christ. So basically, she witnessed to these people about the sabbath truth! The Great Commission tells us to witness to the world about Jesus Christ! My mother-in-law thinks first to witness about [Sabbath Truth] and later you will learn about Jesus in the Adventists tracts! I think that is sort of a slap in the face to Christ. They are so concerned about converting people to the [Sabbath Truth] that they leave Christ totally out of their message! Basically to them, convert people to Sabbath Truth, and Jesus comes in second place! I wonder what the lord thinks of this mentality! How sad to put a man made law-the Sabbath-above witnessing to people about Jesus Christ and my favorite verse John 3:16. Christ himself commisioned us to spread the gospel to the world-so that people would be saved, and in Him live a life of His Grace,Love, Comfort, and Rightousnes! We are saved by His Grace for having Faith in Him! That's wonderful news to share with the world! Witnessing the [Sabbath Truth} is not the Great Commision! There witnessing is in vain. I pray everday that my in-laws will take the Adventist blinders off their eyes, so they will know Christ for who he really is! They are teaching and preaching a belief and gospel contrary to what Jesus Christ commisioned us to do!

You sent it! You just need to make sure you're in the main forum when you want to start a new thread. Then everyone will see it. This space is kind of a thread in a thread, or a sub-thread.

From reading your story, it's so sad that Jesus comes in second after the Sabbath, huh? Not uncommon. I've seen that with my SDA in-laws as well.

Were you raised SDA?

Cortney, it is sad and very frustrating. Sabbath really is the ultimate goal and treasure of Adventism.

Cortney,

I experienced a similar situation but I was the one being witnessed to. I moved to a new town and attended the local SDA church. That week the pastor came by not knowing if I was an Adventist or Christian or anything. He brought tracts on the SABBATH!! Even as an Adventist I was shocked at this blatant focus on the Sabbath over salvation.

why is that whenever SDA says that are witness for Christ it is always about the Sabbath? Someone said that to me today about how this person was such a great witness because she would not participate in a certain event on Sabbath! Somehow Christ got lost in that witness..........Even when sports teams dont play it is always about the witness. What about a witness for what Christ has done in your life while you play?

Generally speaking the SDAs do not know it is all about Jesus Christ and each individual's relationship with Him. I say generally, because there are some SDA who are aware of this. They feel/think the Sabbath is the most important thing in adventism. That is the way I used to think. How very sad. Now I see that it is my relationship with Jesus Christ and that is so simple. I do not mind telling others what God has done for me. This can be in my work, play, church or any other part of my life.
He is always so awesome.

Schasc, I understand your question and frustration. It's probably not possible, as an active and loyal Adventist, to really separate one's Christian experience from the Sabbath because the Sabbath is the major spiritual "hook" the church has on people. it's the essence of the great deception of the organization.

It is sad and frustrating.
