I know it's been a very long time since my last post, but I assure you all that I'm reading the forum when I get time...My life has been very busy + a tragedy in my family which left me in low moods for a while, didnt feel like talking to anyone, but thanks to God I'm ok again. Regarding spiritual matters, I am not sure what the Bible says regarding death. I would very much appreciate your thoughts on this subject, and I apologize if I start a thread which probably has been already discussed in the past - I searched through the archive, but I couldn't find anything. And also, with the near-death experiences phenomena becoming quite common (query)...is it possible they are real or it's just a New Age idea, as the researchers in this subject and those who promote it, interestingly, are part of this ideology. Thanks again... |

I'm not a believer in the 'Near Death Experience'. Yes, I do believe that as 1 Cor. says 'to be absent from the body is to be present with Christ', but I don't think that's what is happening here. I've been a Respiratory Therapist for over twenty years. I've seen a lot of folks die; I've been with them when they died; I've been on codes where we have brought folks back from death; I was even there where we had a 'no code' pt. who repeatedly died and came back. We asked this pt. if he experienced anything or was he hurting. No, 'it's just peaceful and dark' was the reply. I have never, in all my years in the field, actually found a pt. with a near death experience. |

Yosarriana, it's so good to hear from you again! I tend to agree with Loneviking regarding the reliability of near death experiences. I'm not saying they don't happen, but I'm not prepared to think they instruct us in any useful, general way about death. I believe the Bible tells us the truth. 2 Corinthians 5 and Philippians 1:22-23 really do say that we are with the Lord (if we are His) when we die. It doesn't say anything about what that experience will be like, but 2 Cor. 5 makes it clear that "we" leave our earthly "tent" of the body and are present with the Lord. Philippians 1:22-23 clarifies that this being with the Lord is "very much better" than remaining. 1 Thessalonians 4:14 also says that when Jesus returns, God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him. Then the resurrection will happen. Here's a link to an article which further discusses the subject of the human spirit: http://rtinker.powweb.com/Proclamation2004_SepOct.pdf Colleen |
