We have been discussing some really heavy things about why we are here, why we stay and many other things. So, I thought I would tell you what happened to me a week ago Thursday. Laugh if you want. I did and I thanked God also. I get off work at 4 PM. About 6 blocks from home I go through a school zone. After 4 PM it is no longer a school zone. School zone hours are 8 AM to 3:45PM. Well, a week ago Thursday I got off work at 3 PM. Half way home I got this incredible wave of tiredness and was looking forward to getting home. I was driving very careful because I felt so tired. I turn on the street where the school zone is and cruise on. Out of the corner of my eye I saw two motor cycle police on a side street. Did not think a thing of it. Then I saw one pull behind me. Could not imagine what he wanted. I put the window down. When he walked up to the window the young man asked me, "Why are you speeding through my school zone?" By this time I am wide awake and I apologized telling him that usually when I come through here it is not a school zone and that I left work early and I am tired and want to go home. I apologized some more and tell him I am truly sorry. Then he said, 'Are you on your way to see Matt?" I say no I am going home. He then said something about Mike and James. Then it dawns on me that he knows my nephews. Matt is a policeman in Law Vegas and Mike, his older brother is a SWAT team member in Henderson. James is my nephew in law and is a policeman in Henderson. The young policeman, knows my nephews and recognized me, probably from a birthday party at Matt's house. Matt just lives down the street from me about a mile. Any way, this police man tells me he is giving me only a warning. Of course, I apologize, again, and tell I will be careful in any school zone. When he turned and left and I was on my way home, I said, Thank you God. Thank you that I have nephews in the local police department. Before I left work that day one of the young men, with whom I work, told me to drive careful and not get a ticket in my new car. He likes my Honda Civic Coupe. When I went into work the next morning I had to tell all what had happened. I thank God for protecting me and that no children were any where near the street and I thank Him that the policeman recognized me as his friends aunt. Diana |

Thatís the ìGood old boysî syndrome in action, I worked for City Police at one time and I would go along not paying attention to my speed while off duty and there would be one of the guyís out there with his radar pointed right at me and all he would do is wave. I know for a fact that the Police take care of one another and their families, I donít know how just it is, but itís a fact. Maybe the primary reason for it is this, we would be in a restaurant having coffee and people would treat us like we had the plague. When in that position it seems the only friends you have are cops and their families. Also when you are in that position you have to watch out for one another, ainít nobody else going too do it. Addendum to mayoral royal order re: Adventist It has been brought to the attention of this council that screw nails must be prohibited due to humanitarian purposes. This council does not advocate cruelty to animals or Adventist. Therefore this council has decided that in place of screw nails the sign shall be pasted on with a mixture of skunk juice and boiled cabbage. Mayor, humanitarian extraordinaire.

Cool story Diana. And it pays to know the right people. And River, I don't know how "just" it is either but in 37 years with CHP I never intentionally wrote up another cop or his/her spouse or child for a MINOR infraction. But when it's severe enough you're sometimes forced in the interest of public safety. The ones I really hated were the ones who seemed to take the courtesy for granted. I pretty much stuck to my own rule but more than once I let it be known that if it happened again the attitude had better be cleaned up. See folks, I'm still lurking around here. For info, my daughter D seems to be over J and she now has a great Baptist boyfriend who is in school studying for Christian ministry. I'm not sure she has 100% forgiven me for my attitude about J'S SDA beliefs but we are doing much better with him out of the picture. I heard through the grapevine that he said something like "well, I'll bet your Dad's happy". And he is right although I also wish him the best. I know he will be happier with an SDA girlfriend/wife. He would be happier yet if he could somehow break free of SDA. D did tell me that she came to this forum and read my post of praise when they broke up. She wasn't happy that I was happy about it. But someday I believe she will thank me and all of you for the prayers. Hope you are all well. Thank you all for being there for me and my family. I did tell D to invite J (they are still friends) to come to this forum if he ever wants out of SDA. She had once told me in the heat of battle that his parents would not disown him if he left SDA. But my wife has since told me privately that D knew they would disown him if he left the church and became a Sunday Worshiper. God bless you all and keep up the good work in helping others cope with their SDA chains. CW |

Uhoh, we got a CHP on here, Hi CW and Lord bless, never knew a bad CHP, I know there has to be some jerks on CHP but everyone I knew were a great bunch of guys, we only had one jerk on PD but he was O.K. he would just sneek off and go to sleep on patrol. One night he found himself a spot and went to sleep and his knee triggered the mike button on his radio and everybody just let him snore over the radio. Ha. Brings back memories. Lord bless you and yours CW. River |

Really, I was surprised I did not get a ticket. I am only the aunt of these policemen, not the Mom or sister or wife. But I was very thankful, very very thankful, I had not received a ticket and I told God so. Diana |

CW, thanks for checking in! I'm happy to hear about Dóand I'm glad your wife confided the truth to you about J and his parents. That tells me that she probably was pretty concerned about the issue, too. Keep on lurkingóand feel free to say "Howdy" now and then! You're always welcome! Colleen |

Cw, I lived in a small town as a teenager where my dad was a Sheriff reserve deputy (he had a business maintianing their radio systems). The deputies would have let me off from minor infractions as well, but the terrible thing would be that they'd have told my dad. I'd have rather had the ticket ... quietly River, your sign needs to be a bit taller to hide that fake "Happy Sabbath" smile. And day-old chewing gum from the under-side of the bus-stop bench works just as well as an adhesive. Diana, ain't grace great? (in any form)

River, Your stories always remind me of the good old days on the job. I remember we had one "gung ho" guy who worked in one of the village PD's who liked to go behind one of the food markets and sleep in his car, after things got quiet for the night. He would sleep with the ignition off, and that killed all of the emergency equipment. Through a little "testing" we discovered that this guy could sleep through a hurricane. One another deputy and I made a raid. We got into his car without waking him up and turned on EVERYTHING that made noise. Radio, Police radio, overhead lights, siren. all at TOP volume. It addition to the heater and blower. We then backed off a bit and through a M-80 firecracker beside his car. Trouble was, this guy was like 6'7" so when it went off, he went straight up in his seat and hit the top of the car, knocking him colder than a cue ball. We were about to go check him out when he came too and turned on the car. Poor guy almost had a heart attack! Funny thing, we never caught him sleeping after that. Hmmmmmm And yes, I used to let brother and sister officers slide sometimes. You tend to do that to folks who may need to save your life someday |

Thanks River, knees on the mike switches have caused us all a little embarrassment at one time or another I think. I have known a few jerks on the Patrol but I knew alot of officers in my 37 year career and most were great to work with. And thank you all. I'll always keep this site in my favorites and you all in my heart. You are a blessing and a help in time of need. Even when you sometimes get way over the heads of some of us "less learned ones" God put you here for a reason. Keep up the good work. Love Y'all. CW |

One time I was out of work and needed money real bad and a lady my wife knew said she need some brushed hauled across the road and she could pay me five dollars an hour to do it. So I drove down a long curvy canyon road to get to her house, worked for 5 hours pulling the brush across the road in the cold rain February rain. I was returning home and I came around one of the curves, not purposely speeding and met a Highway Patrol, he turned around and put the lights on me, the amount of the ticket? 25.00. I had been praying for work. Sometimes God used to allow me to get in a position where I absolutely had to depend on him. God has taken me through training in my 35 years with him when it looked at times like he had moved his hand directly against me. But through his ìtrainingî it was like he was saying ìYou want to take care of youî but I want to show you that I will take care of youî. There is none other like the Lord, he can and does have the power to work in our behalf in all things. God allows us to go through things for purposes sometimes hard to be understood but if we will learn to trust him it makes those things much easier and we can face the day in peace, knowing he is with us in all things concerned and that he does act on our behalf. River, thank you. You are so right about God taking us through things so He can teach us He's taking care of us. It is hard for me to learn to let go of attempting to control "outcomes"óbut that is what He seems to be wanting me to learn! Colleen |
