I've signed up for a women's Bible study that's doing an in depth study of the book of Daniel. They're also using Beth Moore's book "Daniel: Lives of Integrity, Words of Prophecy". I've never read any from Beth Moore but have always heard good things about her. I don't believe this church takes a particular position on eschatology so I'm looking forward to seeing what all I can learn. With Adventism viewing Daniel as such a monumental book I've just sort of avoided any in depth study of it once out of Adventism. I'm curious what any of you might have found once you threw off the errors of Adventist teaching on Daniel? Aliza | ||

Interestingly, our Former Adventist Bible study group is beginning Daniel this Friday after having just finished Galatians! I know what you mean about "viewing Daniel as such a monumental book"! I was kind of reluctant to go there with our study, but we've had a request for that for some time now, because it would be nice to know how to view Daniel after Adventism. I figured it would take us an eternity to get through it, but when I looked and saw there were only 12 chapters, it should be less time than Romans took. I don't know anything about Beth Moore's study. Our group only uses the Bible and whatever study notes come with the various Bibles in the group. Then the leader (Ric_b) comes prepared with what various commentaries have to say and we discuss from all the information we have. (Message edited by Raven on January 15, 2007) | ||

As an adventist, after I quit going to church, I stopped reading the Bible, except for some daily Bible verses a friend gave to me. As an adventist I did not like to read Daniel and Revelation because I became afraid every time I read them. Since leaving adventism I have read Revelation 2 times. I wanted to see what it said and the funny things is that it did not say them same things it did to me as it did when I was SDA. I started a class about Revelation at my church, but never finished it because I got sick. So, when it is taught again, I will. Diana | ||

The Beth Moore DANIEL study is amazing. I'm teaching it. And I know other Adventist women who have taken it who were SO thrilled. Also, I know an Adventist women's group who is doing it and are quite comfortable. It's verse-by-verse and basically dispensational. But Beth does say: "We don't all have to agree on every point to benefit from this study." Go for it! | ||

I am presently doing the Beth Moore Daniel study and think it is fabulous. Because of my background in Adventism I was a little anxious about how I may react going back to a book in the Bible that I really have not spent any time in since Adventism. I have loved getting a Biblical perspective on the whole topic of Babylon, what it is and how it is influencing us. I have done many Beth Moore studies and have found each one so helpful as I continue to grow in my faith. When one is raised in the Adventist church it is often difficult to differentiate between what is Biblical truth and what is Ellen White. I have just started the Daniel study and am so looking forward to getting a Biblical perspective on the book. | ||

I completed a year (2 semesters) of inductive study of Daniel, and one and a half years (3 of 4 semesters) of Revelation through Precepts Ministry /Kay Arthur. For a long time,I was understandably resistant and dubious about studying those books. However, I am very glad I was able to breakthrough the distaste I developed from the years of indoctrination. I received many incredible blessings by persevering. On Wednesday, (weather permitting) I will start the 4th and last semester of the Inductive Revelation Study. To me studying Daniel and Revelation is no longer confusing with weird facts but clear and simple. I discovered there are about four major interpretations for Revelation. From my studying, I developed a Pre millenium view from the literal interpretation. However, I am not dogmatic about my conclusion and do accomodate other views of Revelation to a certain degree. I don't find it confusing. Beth Moore is incredible and biblically sound Bible teacher. The Daniel Study is relatively new. I have not done or seen the study. Even so, I will highly recommend it. I trust her material. | ||

This is all wonderful news. Although, Jan, I find it incredulous that SDAs are taking this class? It's got to surely raise some more cognitive dissonance to stuff away. Thanks for the welcome. I have been a lurker for a couple of years and finally decided that it was time to get involved. It is interesting that Beth Moore Bible studies was the motivator in getting registered. I am passionate about them and they have been life changing for me. I will write more about myself and my spiritual journey when I have time. My Daniel study is every Tuesday evening so I will try and write every Wednesday and share what I am learning. Jan, I am leading this study so am curious as to how you came about leading yours and if you have taken others? Are all the ladies in your group Adventist? I've done several Beth Moore studies and have found them very helpful in my Christian walk. That said, I did not finish the Daniel one. Not because it was bad but because it brought back so many painful memories and it ended up not fitting into the schedule of things I needed to do. I do hope to go back and finish it at some point in the future! Here's hoping your foray into Daniel blesses you! | ||

Another welcome to Blessed, and to Jan from me. Please tell us your story when you are comfortable. I would love hearing about your experiences with the Beth Moore Daniel study. A co-worker who was thinking of doing the Romans BSF study decided to do the Daniel study instead and she is telling me how awesome it is. Erma, I would love to take those inductive studies on Revelation! Is it a scheduled Precept study or is your group working through one of Kay books? I will have to check that out! There is a book called "Four Views of Revelation" that I want to get, as it supposedly gives an objective look at all the views and allows you to come to your own conclusion. | ||

Some interesting reading on Daniel. http://www.historicist.com/mauro/ Mauro makes a pretty good case for Daniel pertaining only until "The End" of Daniels people(Jewish Nation) Note: While this is on a historist website it is the cleanest version of the book I've found. Susan, the bible study is at the one of the Baptist churches here in Austin, TX. There is no set schedule taking Precepts like it is with CBS and BFS. Different groups even in the same area chose to do what they prefer. For instance, the leaders of the group at the Bible (Grace Covenant) church close to me, made the decision to finish all the Old Testament before doing Revelation. A good choice, I think. A doctor living in Austin, Texas, has a website with an amazing wealth of information and resources. There is information on the four interpretations of Revelation. I have a few minutes to post so thought I would share two things that were very meaningful to me in last weeks lesson. The first was that "We have an enemy who wants to return us to places God called us to leave. Satan wants to take us back into our places of despair and desperate stronghold". The second was "Nothing is more dangerous than friendly captivity because captivity never remains friendly". Having been raised in the Adventist church and attended their private school I was taught that Babylon was any church that wasn't keeping the Sabbath. The first statement is so powerful because Satan wants us to be enslaved with legalism and not trust in the finished work of Christ on the cross. The second statement reminded me of a time when I was held captive by false doctrine and it was keeping me from knowing Christ personally. It was friendly but definitely was captivity. It has been 37 years since I left Adventism so I will probably process things a little differently than someone who has recently left but it is so exciting to be able to study this book and learn the true meaning of its message to us today. I will share my faith journey with you when I have more time to write. | ||

Thanks for the information, Erma! I didn't know Precept had done a study on Daniel and Revelation. I may have to do those on my own after I finish the BSF on Romans. I can't find any Precept classes being offered in the Asheville area, which I would rather do as part of a bible study group. Susan |
