All of us that have left the SDA church have either joined another church or study with a group or maybe study the Bible by your self. So my question to you is what have you discovered that is different that adventism? For myself the biggest thing was having Jesus as the core of the gospel. His birth, life, death and most important his resurrection are emphasized. This is what is emphasized for salvation. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be save. I do not have the text right here as I write. The other fact is the Holy Spirit is our seal. It is not the sabbath. The gospel of Jesus Christ is really very simple. So simple a child can understand it. I know that each of us who attend a church have things with which we disagree. For me it is tithe. Every time tithe is mentioned, I think "God loves a cheerful giver". So, what drew you to the church you now attend. What an awesome God we have. Diana | ||

Diana, great question. Having Jesus as the core has been the most significant difference for me. It affects everything. Women with whom I previously would have felt I had nothing in common now are sincerely warm because we share Jesus. It is incredible how much true fellowship is determined by a shared commitment to the Lord Jesus. In Adventism I felt a certain undeniable fellowship, but it was based on shared culture, beliefs, and world-view. Now I find true connection and sincere commitments to pray for me and mine from people who previously I might not have talked to much. Jesus changes everythingóeven relationships! Colleen | ||

What have I discovered that is different from Adventism? A purpose and a vision! To me it is very important to be in a church that puts a high priority on seeking and presenting the Gospel to those who are lost whether or not they ever attend a church similar to mine. As an Adventist I so much wanted to go and do something for God. Finally I was a student missionary one year and I pretty much did diddly squat in terms of sharing the Gospel. All I did (regretfully now) was promote Adventism and the Adventist lifestyle. After that year I came back unsatisfied knowing that something wasn't right with Adventism. | ||

I have discovered a former adventist Bible Study in my area and look forward to attending. I am excited about focusing on the Bible for the first time instead of wading through EGW writings. I can get my Direction from the Bible and for the first time truly learn what it says. | ||

I guess for me, I would say that in my bible study I found that there is no such thing as "progressive" truth. Paul, in Galatians, states that the Galatian Christians shouldn't accept another gospel other than the one that Paul had already presented, even if an angel or Paul himself presented it. That opened my eyes that I shouldn't worry about NEW thoughts or truth. From the church I attend I have come to believe that there are some things that are not dependent on my salvation. As an Adventist I was taught that it was ALL contributory to salvation, but now I have learned that somethings just don't matter. And the discussion about such is nothing more than rearranging deck chairs on the titanic. | ||

What I've discovered. The life changing reality of Jesus Christ in people's lives. Jesus is not a byword but the center and focus in our lives. Bible Study means just that: studying the BIBLE and applying it to your life everyday. I meet people who are open, honest, humble and unafraid to confess and become vulnerable about personal struggles in their lives. I can TRUST people. I have sweet fellowship with other christian women, not superficial or obligatory. For example, I'll share a personal, heartwarming note/email I received from my friend. We had not seen one another for about 6 mths and met this week for coffee. (Reply to my thank you note) "Dear One ñThe thanks are mine! Having left our fellowship of 10 years was difficult, especially knowing most of our relationships would soon become ìChristmas Cardî friendships. Itís just a reality that, having moved so many times, we have come to accept. I am so grateful that our relationship has not been diminished in that way. I am always delighted hear about the way God is growing all the Toussaints ñ walking in truth, walking n freedom, walking in love. Walking beside you always refreshes me. I appreciate your listening ear and encouragement, dear sister. (Oh, and I love your jewelry ;~) But for your gift of friendship, I am in debt. Owe no one any debt but to love..Öbj" I've discovered people with wonderful servants' hearts. Their identity is in Christ, they refuse to allow professional, educational or financial status to create barriers in relationships or platforms to "lord" it over others or name drop. I am not afraid to say "I don't know" nor do I feel stupid if I ask apparent simple questions when things are not clear to me. Every Sunday morning, when my family and I meet with the other congregants singing, praying, listening to a sermon and greeting people, I feel a freshness of the Lord's Spirit and amazed by His grace. I still wonder! Are my sda friends experiencing the awesomeness of Christ? Dear Lord, open the eyes of their hearts, too. | ||

I have discovered that I am loved by the church members as I am, not because of what I believe or what they think I believe. I have discovered many new aspects of the ministry of the Holy Spirit, both in my life and in others. I have discovered that I want to share my faith with non-Christians, I used to feel obligated to do that. | ||

What beautiful postings! Can agree with them all. Never thought I'd feel like this! Complete acceptance and friendliness (Agape) drew us into the church we attend.
