Hi Friends, Just met a lady at work who we just happened to mention (providential happening) that we both went to WWC. She then asked if I was SDA. I told her I use to be. Then she asked why I left. She wants to call and talk to me sometime. Could you give me a list of some resources, texts to start with, books, websites, etc... that would help a "former" who still believes in EG White and the Sabbath? Which, of course means she is also disconnected from the body of ChristÖ (says she doesn't believe in religion any more). PLEASE PRAY. Lisa | ||

Sounds like a God-moment to me. I'm sure others are going to be able to give you a long list of scriptures and books but have you considered first just getting acquainted and becoming friends? It sounds to me like sharing your story that would be powerful since she's already asked. It might be that she really doesn't even having a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. After establishing more of a friendship base, you can find out exactly the issues that are meaningful to her and let her know you'll get back to her if you can't quote all the scriptures off the top of your head. Being a friend is a great suggestion. When opportunties arrive I would talk with her about the joy you found in Him. I would talk about how Jesus is not about religion and the joys of the new birth and sonship. The new covenant is a great thing to bring up when you have an opportunity. For me, it really helped me to see that the 10 commandments were the words of the old covenant. Most importantly, I think, is to show agape love to her. Let the love of God shine from you to show her how real God is. A couple texts come to mind: Matthew 28 " 28Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. [I will [a]ease and relieve and [b]refresh [c]your souls.] 29Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle (meek) and humble (lowly) in heart, and you will find rest ([d]relief and ease and refreshment and [e]recreation and blessed quiet) for your souls.(A) 30For My yoke is wholesome (useful, [f]good--not harsh, hard, sharp, or pressing, but comfortable, gracious, and pleasant), and My burden is light and easy to be borne." Lisa -- how exciting! Like everyone else already stated, I would just develop the friendship first and share your personal testimony with her. Personal testimonies are so powerful! Just as influential as a whole list of good reading material or Bible truths. And as she gets to know you, and sees that these aren't just "words" that you're saying, but a completely changed life you're experiencing, she will want it. Over time, she'll probably start asking you more specific questions, where it will be easier to see what her style is (for books), and topics of interest (for Bible study) are. But since she doesn't believe in religion anymore, this may take time to get to that stage. Awesome! I'm praying for you. Grace | ||

Thank you all for your input. She did ask me detailed questions, all kinds of them. She's like the kind of person who wants to get to the meat quickly. Anyway, pray that she calls me, because as our day was a rat race in the Emergency Department, we only got that far, getting her my number... then we were both off, putting out one fire after another. She's older and single and I'm sure lonely as she's been a traveling nurse and just landed here. I pray we will become friends. Lisa | ||

Lisa, How exciting!! I love God incidents like that. God gives them to me very so often. I know I wrote on here about one woman, with whom I used to work, whose son became an SDA and is now an SDA minister. She left the facility, but she knows she has my prayers. I told her about FAF. I will pray for you. God is always awesome in how He does things and brings someone into our path. Diana |
