I first heard about this movie a couple of days ago. At that time, it was understood that this movie got a PG rating because of it's spiritual themes (a down and out football coach finds God and shares the gospel with his team). I guess the movie rating association is now saying that the movie got a PG because of infertility issues mentioned in the movie as well as the football scenes (which I guess show violence?). Anyway, controversies like this are usually blessings in disguise for Christian movies. Hollywood is pretty anti-Christian, but the Christian audience really does affect their box-office sales. "Passion of the Christ" is a good example of that. Also, "The DaVinci Code" (which had MUCH lower sales than expected) is another example of the effect of Christians on box office sales. Anyway, here's the latest news clip about the movie: http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/la-fi-giants21jun21,1,2363043.story?coll=la-headlines-entnews&track=crosspromo |

Here's another link that quotes several of the people involved, and shows maybe how the "misunderstanding" took place: http://www.getreligion.org/?p=1697 I'm with the writer of this article. I think a PG rating is fine according to the idea that there may be content that is offensive to some parents (the pledge of allegiance is offensive to some parents, etc.). But they now have set a standard that they'll need to be consistent with. I liked where the writer mentioned "vague pantheism" in some movies that should warrant a PG rating as well if the movie associations are to remain consistent. |

Okay, here's one more link It's the trailer to the movie. It's definitely got "thematic elements" that are unusual for Hollywood. http://www.facingthegiants.com/ (I'm not trying to promote this movie, I just heard about it the other day. For all I know, it could be a really bad movie -- it is low budget. But the story does fascinate me.) |

PG might be a blessing. You might have a harder time getting the early teen set to go to a G rated movie. It sounds great. I love highschool football inspirational movies. Football is BIG in our town. |
