I inadvertently posted this as a sub-thread under "Sing!" Please forgive the confusion, but I am re-posting as a main thread. I've copied and pasted below the original post and the responses from Diana and Melissa. I hope to gather a list of questions and give them to my husband to ask. He plans to attend, but I told him I don't believe it would be right for me to attend. I've already made up my mind about EGW and would be seen as an antagonist. But this list might be helpful for him and the others who have invited the speaker to address inquisitive Adventists. ______________ Honestwitness Registered user Username: Honestwitness Post Number: 65 Registered: 7-2005 Posted on Friday, May 05, 2006 - 6:46 pm: I just learned that a spokesperson from the White Estate will be giving a presentation at a SDA church in my area in two weeks. There will be a Q & A session afterwards. What question would you ask, if you had the opportunity to get an answer directly from a White Estate proponent in front of a large group of people? ______________ Flyinglady Registered user Username: Flyinglady Post Number: 2512 Registered: 3-2004 Posted on Friday, May 05, 2006 - 7:06 pm: There are so many things I would ask. I would ask what Fanny Bolton wrote, as I think it is she who wrote most of Steps to Christ. I would ask who the "young man" was who was by EGW during her life. I would ask about her plagiarism and bring examples of it with me from W. Rae's book. I would also ask about the instances where she contradicts the Bible and take instances with me. There are so many other questions. People with first edition books know the differences are not minor.

I'm sorry, Honestwitness, but I wouldn't ask them anything! It will be pointless! The White Estate has had many years of experience in answering all these questions from inquiring SDA's in a way that seems to appease the questioners. Here's a sad and hysterical example - I hope it doesn't offend because it involves the topic of masturbation! Someone I know wrote to the White Estate and said, what does one do with EGW's words about how masturbation causes dwarfism and insanity and cancer? The White Estate wrote back saying something about how when a man spills his seed he loses zinc and that large depletions of zinc could eventually cause mental problems !!! That answer satisfied the inquiring SDA! (Many sarcastic remarks are rolling around in my head on that one - but I'll refrain!) This is absurdity at its best! It is just another silly reason why it is rather a waste of energy and time to get into any kind of debate on this subject with dyed -in -the wool EGW believers, let alone folks from the White estate! That is probably more information that you wanted - but just couldn't refrain! Good luck! |

I agree with Lindylou. They always have an answer for everything. And neither is there anything in the bible they can't explain to you also.

The questions I would feel like asking would be inappropriate. For example, "How can you justify being paid to exonerate and defend a woman who's been proven to have plagiarized, lied about it, changed her messages, and destroyed honest men?" So, I would also keep quiet. My questions would be antagonistic and would only invite defensiveness and arguing. Colleen |

Honestwitness, Could you attend and report to us what is said during the meeting? I would love to attend, but I'm in Maryland, and I guess, too far from you... |

When I wrote my response I knew my questions were antagonistic and would probably not be answered. They would as Colleen said, invite defensiveness and arguing. It is better if one remains quiet. But I would still like to ask the questions. I do not agonize over them nor am I troubled by them. I would just like an answer, which I probably would not get. Diana |

Well, today is the day of the White Estate event at the local SDA church. It will start with this morning's worship service and last until sometime this evening, as the church is providing dinner to attendees. I gave hubby these three questions to ask and told him I'll be watching for the answer on the video recording. Yes, it will be recorded and made available on CD. I'll let you know when the CD is available. 1. Why do you not publish Ellen G. Whiteís works unedited from the original versions? 2. How do you justify taking the liberty to edit the works of God's messenger now that she is not here to approve such edits? 3. What do you say to people who have first edition Ellen G. White writings, when they ask you why you have edited later versions to make Sister White say something different than what she said in the original writings? HW |

Oh, I just thought of a question to ask them--too late. Why do they refuse to release her writings that are hidden away in the vault? Jeremy (Message edited by Jeremy on May 20, 2006) |

Were they just at your husband's particular church or are they in town making the rounds? |

Sorry to take so long in answering, but I sit at a computer all day at my job, and it's sometimes taxing to sit again all evening. So I've been sort of taking a break. Melissa, the event was held only at my husband's church, but it was well advertised throughout the region. He told me people from other SDA churches kept coming in all day and evening long. My husband told me he gave my questions, which I gave him on a typewritten page, to the White estate representative and told him if he didn't have a chance to answer then during the day-long event, to please send him an email. I haven't received any answers yet. Pradez2, my husband verified that the entire program was indeed recorded onto a DVD and he was given this DVD to copy onto CDs. However, hubby says the file was so big he was unable to copy it, so he gave the DVD back to the person who recorded it and asked him to divide it into smaller parts so he could burn CDs from it. So far, that's where we stand. A part of me wants to watch the recorded event, but another part of me doesn't want to remain blissfully ignorant. After all, eight months ago I left the church (after 16 years) so I wouldn't have to endure that kind of frustration any more. But I'll keep you posted on the outcome of the DVD/CD issue. HW |
