I thought I had seen a reference to this in the past few days, but couldn't find it when looking just now. If any of you are interested in reading an English transation of the text, following this link: http://www9.nationalgeographic.com/lostgospel/_pdf/GospelofJudas.pdf - Erik. |

When reading it keep this in mind: http://www.albertmohler.com/commentary_read.php?cdate=2006-04-07 Should we be surprised that the anti-Christian media and National Geographic has seized on this. Interesting that the organization that brought us Doug Bachelor -- the Revelation expert -- has now brought us this. |

The Gospel of Judas: Peddling Gnosticism (and just in time for 'The Da Vinci Code' movie) : http://www.professorbainbridge.com/2006/04/modern_gnostici.html "Indeed, the Gospel of Judas was expressly condemned as heterodox by church father Saint Irenaeus of Lyons about 180 AD."

Stan, I have not yet had time to read it. However, if it is what it claims to be (another ancient text from the early days of Christianity) then it does nothing less than shed some light on the thoughts and perceptions of the people of that time in that area. I've read a number of the other gnostic gospels and find them interesting. Some passages from these texts are not out of line of mainstream Christian thought, others diverge sharply from the Biblical canon. Each should be compared to scripture and judged on its own, just as the Bible suggests we do with the words of people claiming to be from God. That's not to say that we should accept or discard entire books based on one or two passages, but each passage should be compared to scripture. If it follows scripture, then it possibly sheds light in a new way, and if it doesn't then don't dwell on it and find something good to read instead. - Erik. |
