Did anyone else catch on the news that Desmond Doss' funeral was this past Monday? It's considered newsworthy because he's a conscientious objector buried with honors, a first. http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/04/04/doss.funeral.ap/index.html (Message edited by Raven on April 04, 2006) |

Amen to that Stan. I had the priviledge of meeting Mr. Doss when I was in academy. He was an American hero in the truest sense of the word and deserved nothing but our praise though I don't think he needed it. I'm sure the 75+ men he pulled to safety under heavy fire would agree as well. Raven, thanks for that link. Heretic |

I always loved his book; still have it. His story is fascinating. Our US medics are truly of the bravest. An honorable man, who truly loved his neighbor. And he creatd the way for later conscientious objectors, who didn't want to kill (but desired to serve), to be medics in our wars after WWII. Thanks for the link and the news. Cathy |

I'm sorry to hear of his death. I read his book and also heard him speak. He seemed a very humble and even shy man. I'm sure that he paved the way for my service as a CO and medic in Vietnam. Most of my time was with a small MASH (as in the TV series ) Unit. We were stationed about 8 miles from the DMZ. It was an "interesting" year of my life. In His hands, Richard rtruitt@mac.com
