OK, I have to take some of my Reformed brethren to task. One of the most read blogs in the blogosphere is a blog by Tim Challies. Ordinarily, his insights are terrific, and usually his research and thinking is clear. But not so on the Sabbath. However, in this article you can detect his ambivalence, and inconsistent thinking. Also he picked this particular Super Bowl Sunday to write this article! The reaction to this article has been big so far, and it has not been on the net for long. The link to this article is www.challies.com/archives/001639.php There is a comment section at the end. I could not resist posting my reply to this weak article, and my post is in the reply section. I put in a plug for this web site and a commercial for Dale Ratzlaff's book, as well as a plug for John Reisinger's website www.soundofgrace.com For any of you who are so inclined, this is a great opportunity to make your feelings known about this Sabbath topic. Registration for his forum is really easy, and just takes a moment. You can chime in with the Who's who on the blogosphere. One of the best replies so far is from Phil Johnson, who is an associate pastor for John MacArthur. But this blog is very influential, and I think it would be great if some of you want to post your views on the New Covenant, and it might have a good impact on this article. Stan |

The title for this thread rattles me still. I've been flogged by that reference from Isaiah, but now I can truly call The Sabbath a delight because I delight to tell others how much I love Jesus, and how he has redeemed me. I am also delightedly looking forward to that one day, that Sabbath, when Jesus plucks us off this planet and takes us home to be with him forevermore. That is Sabbatismos!!!!! |

Avoid vain strivings about the Law. Jesus knows our hearts. Many will say in that day Lord Lord. Jesus will not be too happy with those who trample His law and attempt to explain it away because they no longer wish to have it written their hearts. Should we make void the law through faith God forbid. To those who wish to quote Romans 14 as their way out, do not ignore the greater context of the passage. Its not about abolishing the Sabbath it is however about judging each other. |

Brian 4, I am just curious. Did you actually check out the link above where several of us have been in the marketplace over there on www.challies.com discussing the issue of Sabbath and the Law? Colleen and Jeremy have especially been distinguishing themselves on this discussion. I think it is very intereswting that you mention the context of Romans 14. Just about 13 verses earlier in Romans 13, Paul mentions several of the ten commandments, but conspicuous by it's absence is his mention of the fourth commandment. The whole law is summed up in love. So, it would be unthinkable that Paul, with the concept already in mind in Rom 13 would then suddenly have a different context in mind with regards to Rom 14:5,6. It would be highly unlikely that he could possibly write Rom 14:5,6 the way he did if he had the Decalogue in mind as proven in Romans 13. I would appreciate your thoughts on this. Stan |
