Just thought I'd ad that around six months ago on the program, Journey Home, which is on EWTN each Monday night from 10-11 p.m. was a lady who had been raised SDA, actually went from grades K through graduate school in SDA schools and ended up converting to Catholic. You might be able to read her story on the EWTN website. At the time I telephoned Colleen and her and her husband ended up watching the program, too. It was very interesting. The lady explained the Investagitive Judgement and the SDA understanding on the state of the dead as well as other SDA doctrines with 100% accurasity. |

as a catholic who is married to someone who was raised a devout SDA (his family are all SDA), i can tell you i found my husband's family to be very good people. christian people. in some ways, they are better than myself. i was very troubled by their views on other religions, esp. my own, and not taking into account one's personal relationship with Christ as being the most important factor. i also had a hard time understanding why they had so many requirements between them and their relationship (salvation) with God. for instance, what they ate, activities they could participate in, how they dressed, etc. and honestly, as someone who went through twelve years of catholic schooling, i never heard of or was told anything negative about the SDA church. i always held a postive view of other churches, with the exception of JW or mormons who seemed to not hold Jeses as divine. |

Traditional Adventist views of other religions, espcially Catholics, are based upon Ellen White's writings in The Great Controversy. They maintain that the Catholics illegitimately changed the Sabbath to Sunday (actually, Christians worshiped on the first day long before there was a Catholic church), and that all people who go to church on Sunday are following after the "beast" and "his image" ósymbols from the book of Revelation. Ellen also taught that the papacy will be the antichrist. In reality, however, the Catholics bear no animosity toward Adventists although very traditional Adventists live in fear of Catholics eventually hunting them and shooting them in the "time of trouble". Further, in reality, at the top levels of Adventist administration, there are all manner of business deals made between Adventist leaders and Catholic investors (not to mention other business alliances that would likely scandalize the members if they knew). They have been profit-sharing between them for decades. The traditional Ellen view of Catholicism is a great control mechanism that keeps the members in fear and compliance, and it "protects" them from believing the levels of compromise and corruption that much of the business side of the church is involved in. colleen-i have read various SDA websites (and former SDA websites) and still don't understand why someone in the SDA religion cannot think for themselves regarding ellen white's teachings. how does one become so indoctrinated and live in the world of today seeing that most of what they are taught isn't true? |
