Even though I am still technically a member, I have not set foot in an Adventist Church for over a year now. I never bought into the whole EGW thing, it actually weirded me out to tell you the truth. I do not use alcohol or tobbaco, I do however drink coffee and other caffeniated beverages. I do not eat pork or the other "un-clean" meats, this is more by choice then anything else.
I am curious to hear what beliefs you have tossed out the window and no longer believe in.

91steps, here is what I tossed a few months ago in the order tossed:

1) I tossed out the belief that I would eventually get saved after Jesus returns. I'm saved. Romans 10:9

2) I tossed my belief in soul sleep. Once saved, I felt the separation of the spirit, I feel it when I pray. Soul sleep doesn't make sense to me anymore.

3) I stopped feeling guilty about keeping the Sabbath. My Sabbath day rest has been replaced with my daily Sabbath rest with Christ which lives in me now.

4) I don't feel guilty for what I'm eating. I enjoy some vegetarian food still. Since my diet included bacon, spam, scallops and shrimp, etc... before I was Adventist (20 years ago), I very much missed eating those things so I am eating them now. If I grew up vegetarian, I might have remained mostly vegetarian. I say mostly because I'm a very curious person and would likely try some unclean foods and meats out of curiousity. I know it isn't important to God what I eat. It will not change the fact that I am saved.

5) I no longer accept the SDA doctrine on hell. I'm not yet comfotable with eternal hell, but I'm not going there and realize that when I read the bible, the bible tells me God is just. He will not put anyone in hell unfairly. God is never unfair.

Like it or not. We all bought into EGW whether we read any of her books or not. It is the foundation and teachings of the SDA church. She even named the Church - Seventh-day Adventist (in her words - to convict the fanatical protestants).

91 Steps--my "tossing" looks much like Lynne's, but I would probably not call it "tossing" because I didn't just get rid of those beliefs because they weren't useful anymore. I let them go because I discovered the reality of the gospel, the total reliability of Scripture, and I met Jesus.

Once I knew I was saved and secure in Him, those other things clearly didn't fit into the New Covenant as explained in the New Testament. Further, those things clearly appeared functional as shadows and symbols that were significant for Israel and for God's purposes with that nation before Christ.

Rather than tossing beliefs, I believe we must open ourselves to knowing Jesus and immersing ourselves in the truth about Him by studying Scripture. As we meet Jesus and discover the utter clarity of the Bible, the false doctrines become distinct, and we know what to do with them!

As my wife and I stated in our request to have our names removed from the membership list of SDA, our 40 some years as SDA's was part of our journey, but not our destination. It has been a marvelous year since we departed SDA and all of its teachings. We Joyously "Rest" in the Grace of Jesus Christ and the New Covenant.

We entreat your prayers as the Holy Spirit leads in the establishment of a New Covenant based fellowship in our area. My wife has been especially instrumental in planting seeds of Grace in the local SDA soil, rocky as it may be. The demographics show an unchurched populace of approximately 85% in our area.

Please Pray!!! Especially this Sunday PM as we meet to seek the revelation of God's will.

Larry,
I have put you on my prayer list and will remember you when I pray.
As for "tossing" SDA doctrine. I can't say I tossed. When I discovered Jesus Christ and saw that He is all I need for salvation, I wanted to let go of everything that hindered a relationship with Him. As I learn new things from the Bible, I unlearn my SDA background and letting go of adventism gets easier every day.
God, You are awesome.

Larry, I'll pray also.
