Today my son flew to Las Vegas from Little Rock with a flight crew. They are flying a plane back to Little Rock tomorrow. The other men went to the various casinos to gamble, but my son chose to spend the day with me. No 1 thing for which to be thankful.
No.2 thing: In our conversation today my son told me how can one be a former SDA if they never were one. By that he means one who believes every thing the SDA church teaches. He tells me the SDA doctrine he learned from me is not what the SDA church teaches. He told me he has never been an SDA, because he has not believed all the things they teach. I gave him all my Proclamation magazines and "White Out" by Cleveland. Colleen, you will be getting an order from me with a note that the books be sent to my son.
No 3 thing: I called my younger sister and asked her to go to dinner with us(my son & I) tonight. We were talking and she told us about her explaining death to some one. She said the spirit goes to heaven and the body remains in the ground. I was very pleasantly surprised. This sister is a quiet person and does not talk about her beliefs very often. So I was glad she said what she said and told her it was very Biblical. Then she said that she does not believe everything the SDA church teaches. Thank You God.
So, you all can see that I am very thankful tonight. I can see God is working on this sister and my son. My heart is filled with thankfulness.
God, you are awesome.

Diana,
God is awesome and He does answer prayers! He answered my prayers before I was saved and He keeps answering my prayers, He never stops listening to us and loving us. He answered the prayers of my husband who prayed and had others praying for me. He knew something was wrong with Adventism and my spirit under it (not as much as he knows now), so he prayed. I'm glad for you.

Flying Lady it is a gift from God TO BE THANKFUL. Bless God for your life!! Can someone explain how the Spirit abides with God? Meaning do we only know we are with God at the second coming, are our spirits dormant entities until the second coming i.e our Spirits are with God but we are unaware until the end of time? |

While we don't know exactly what will happen, we know that nothing--even death--can ever separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:28-29), that Paul said it was preferable to be away from the body and present with the Lord and that "whether we are at home in the body or away from it" we "make it our goal to please the Lord" (2 Cor 5:8-9), and that it is "better by far" to depart and be with Christ (Phil. 1:22-23).
There is mystery here, but the statements are clear that Paul saw his state in death to be preferable to that in life on this sinful earth.

Diana, yes, we all have a lot to be thankful of. Especially us here in the US and other free countries, a large part of this thankfullness is due to our dedicated military persons, such as your son and my son and the others on this discussion board who are or have loved ones serving our country. It is so easy to focus on the negative and be grouchy. it takes more effort to focus on thankfullness. There is a text somewhere that says, "Be thankful in all things". So, even when things get the most difficult for me i try to keep in mind that text and find something abvout the situtation to show thankfullness about. For instance, I have a son whio has Tourette Syndrome, ADD, paronid schitzopherenia (BTW, he's currently in jail so please remember him in your prayers. Thank-you.), and bulemia and alcholism and some other serious disorders. I used to whine at god, "Why God? Why me? Why us? It's so hard." Then I got over it. I had a profound insight from God one night that I was to learn compassion, emphaty and understanding and patirnce for those who are dealing with things beyond their control. Yes, I am still working on these things but I try now to prayerfully keep those things in mind. Since the name of this website is Former Adventist there is one thing I am not thankful for and that is my loved ones who are so bound up in the rules, the legalism the can'ts and the have to's of the SDA religion. Even the ones who think of themselves as extra liberal SDA's are trapped into their own snare of rules. They each make up their own rules and each think their rules are the best rules. Like one can do this on Sabbath and another would never even think of doing such a thing. Some drink alcohol, others can't justify such abhorrant behavior. The list is endleass. Now Miss Wonderful whom I'm hoping will become my dil someday is taking SDA lessons from a SDA man who spends every night in the next town with his girlfriend and they do teroit cards together. And, yes, I know the SDA church teaches against such things but still there are individual SDA's who partisipate in undesirable behaviors. My text to be thankfuil in all things is being really challanging to me in this situtation. |
