I was just reading about the historical shut door teachings of Ellen White at http://www.ellenwhite.org/egw1.htm - Isn't it true that since people taught in classes the core cultic teachings of the church are generally not from the "outside", you could say that this church still has "Shut Door" teachings consistant with the story of the 10 Virgins in Matthew. I do rememeber about 17 years ago in the church the story of the 10 Virgins being discussed in a bible study. I don't quite remember the outcome, but I do remember a lot of arguing, as with many of the bible studies I went to. I would love to hear the interpretation and or thoughts of other formers on this. | ||

I always thought the 10 virgins was about being ready for Jesus to come and once He came there would not be a second chance. | ||

What I understood as an SDA was that the door was shut on the five foolish virgins because they fell away and failed to watch thru the great disappointment. And that the reason they fell away was in some part caused by the fact they hadn't studied to find it for themselves. I was taught that those who fell away were henceforth lost . . . and that anyone from that time to this who 'understood the message' and either rejected it out of hand or fell away later were facing the same shut door. I also learned (from Early Writings I think) that every christian who hadn't 'come up to the light' on the sanctuary - who hadn't 'followed Jesus from the first apartment to the second' - but who was a practicing christian, was henceforth praying to Satan who 'took over' the first apartment of the sanctuary when Jesus left. | ||

Thanks so much for that. I did get that message, but for some reason I didn't connect the two today since it has been such a long time since I've been in the studies. That is why Adventists must study themselves into the truth, and thus becoming a former you are praying to Satan. | ||

This topic seems to be just one more confusing issue with EGW. In 2T - she uses this parable of the 10 virgins like this: "We are waiting and watching for the return of the Master, who is to bring the morning, lest coming suddenly He finds us sleeping. What time is here referred to? Not to the revelation of Christ in the clouds of heaven to find a people asleep. No, but to His return from His ministration in the most holy place of the heavenly sanctuary, when He lays off His priestly attire and clothes Himself with the garments of vengeance..... probation closes; Christ's intercessions cease in heaven."pg. 190 She also refers to this parable in a little book called "Christian Experiences and Teachings" - the reference is made between this parable and the Midnight cry of the 1844 message. | ||

Praying to Satan..... EGW stated that everyone that did not follow Christ as he moved from the holy to the most holy place on Oct. 22, 1844 were still directing their prayers to the holy place vacated by Christ, and that Satan was in there and was answering the prayers of the wicked, those not part of the 44 move. This is really funny because The Karaite day of atonement for 1844 was September 23. I have a letter from the head Karaite Jew in Cairo, Egypt that says this, he also states that 1843 was a leap year. Every year the day of atonement falls either in September or in Oct. If it is a Jewish leap year where they add a whole month to the calendar at the end of their year, the calendar is 1 month ahead that year so the Day of Atonement always falls in Oct. on leap years. Now in order for the day of Atonement to have been October 22, 1844 it would have had to be a leap year. But since there was a leap year in palestine in 1843 it is nearly impossible for them to have had another one the next year. Leap years are about 3 years apart. Another thing, I wrote a letter to Nehmiah Gordon, the Head of the Karaites in Jerusalem, Israel back in 1991 and he assuered me that the Karaite Date for the day of atonement was Sept 23, 1844. This means that Ellen White was a month off in the 1844 move and was praying to the Devil a full month herself ! Ray |
