I have collected quite a few Ellen White books over the years. I know I don't want to donate them because I don't want anyone else to read them and think that it is biblically sound material. But I don't want to get rid of any older material in case anyone might want to use them to point out inaccuracies. So if there is anyone in the forum that wants any of the older books of hers that I have, let me know. I want to get rid of the latest material that I have first. I don't want to be too facetious but, I had a few ideas. Perhaps I could have my kids glue the pages together for fun or we could add some of the older really nice solid Pacific Press books to the cement we will be using for the foundation of a home we will be building. Perhaps we could take out all of the pages for paper mache and of course paint the outside. On the remaining covers (with the missing pages) like Bible Readings for the Home, we could glue the bible to the spine inside and of course put stickers over the name "White" on the cover of the book.. I really have no inspired visions on this, so your advise would be welcomed. The trash can was my first thought though.

Lynne, many of us have had various disposal "events". We burned ours so no one could get them in the future. I'll let others tell their stories; some have made me laugh!

I don't know what you mean by older, but if you mean older as in more original versions before the more modern re-written versions, I suspect there might be someone interested in those as you say to point out inaccuracies or coverups. If they're just older copies of the latest versions, I'd say use your imagination.

That is what I meant. The versions that are not revised. I have some from the 50's and sooner. I will dig them up later today to be exact.

Lynne, do you have "A Solemn Appeal" or "An Appeal to Mothers"?

Lynne, Many years ago I spent oodles of money on that five volume set of EGW's at a campnmeeting sale. They were leather bound. I only bought them out of peer pressure. I took them home and read a few paragraphs of the first volume and then never cracked one of those books again. The next year I toted all those books back to campmeeting and told the clerk at the bookstore I wanted a refund. She argued with me but I showed her the sign on the wall that said full refunds with receipt. She still kept asking me if I'd actually read them. I told her I read several paragraphs of the first volume and could tell I wasn't going to like them so the books were still new and I wanted my money back. After she got her supervisor and I had to go through the same hassle I got my money back. Good thing too because I had two small children to buy school clothes for as it was in August and school was about to start. The really super old books I find in my house sometimes like dating back to the early 1900's I've saved. The more current ones I come across I throw in the trash. I recently sent Colleen a photocopy of an ad I came across in a recent Review. It had the greats from the OT pictured then a very small picture of Jesus then Martin Luther and then a huge picture of EGW then Doug Batchler and Shawn B. I guess it was to show the greats sent from God. It was a very blasphmosphus (sp?) picture in my opinion. The really super old stuff though I hope you hang onto or give to someone who runs a ministry such as FAF.

I gave mine back to the church, but if I had it to do over I would of followed Colleen's advise.

If they were really old, I would love to have them to show someone how the stories have been changed and edited through the years. Somehow seeing someone else's photocopy doesn't have as much impact as seeing it up close and personal. Sydney Cleveland talks about a gentleman who's old library was a great resource to him in his research, but with todays computer technology, such pictures are easily "questionable" to the literate person.

Thanks for the advise. So far I found a 1944 Testimonies for the Church, it is a third edition. I also found Child Guidance from 1954 and I know I have a church manual from the early 1900s. I was thinking of throwing away my "Treasures of Life" volumes from the 1950s.

I found a church manual that still had only 22 fundamentals in it. I bought it at a thrift store for a quarter. I sent it to Colleen. I also found a book in my boxes in the garage called, 'Jennifer meets a Prophet" from the mid-1960's that I sent to Colleen. I sent it to her because SDA's will say they don't think of EGW as a prophet. Yet, this book is published by Pacific Press and as the title implies it's about a little girl named Jennifer who is totally awe struck because she gets to spend time with a real prophet, Ellen White. BTW, Colleen, have you ever showed that book to anyone? What's the response?

Hi all...

I have kept all of my Ellen books. I decided to do so for reference sake only. I don't read them anymore, but want to have them when talking with adventist. I have kept pretty good notes and use the ole' flip method (as taught to me by my 1st SDA pastor) to refer to inaccuracies. I know that I have been called to minister to people wanting to leave adventism. I did not know exactly what God meant when He first showed me my call, but almost 2 years later, I understand this aspect of it. So, that was my long way of saying, allow the Lord to guide you in this matter. If they will be of use to help, keep, if not, bird cage liner. :-)

He is WORTHY!!!!!!!

I tossed my books and my Bible and Living Sound tapes. I know that sounds terriable, but I know they used quotes right out of Prophets and Kings, etc... to "fill in" the stories and didn't want my kids tainted the way I was. I also got rid of Uncle Arthor. That made me the saddest as I loved his stories, but found while reading them that they are FULL OF SHAME AND WORK YOUR WAY TO HEAVEN MIXED WITH GOD IS GOOD AND JESUS SAVES US. I also got rid of some of my Uncle Dan and Aunt Sue tapes... some are simply historical, but some have the same slant as Uncle Arthor. Margie Asks Why was tossed... I could go on... We just trashed them as we don't want anyone else twisted out of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Heretic,

I was quite amazed to find copies of "A Solemn Appeal" and "An Appeal to Mothers" for sale at the Hope, B.C. campmeeting ABC this year. They appeared to be re-released editions. As I browsed through them my neck was getting sore from my head shaking. I could not believe that stuff was still being pushed onto people.
Most of my EGW books have been relegated to recycling over the years.

As I was recently sifting through the wasteland that is my 17 year old sons room,I ran across a EGW paperback compilation called "Last Day Events".This book was given to him at Christmas 2002 by his Earliteen sabbath school teachers (wonderful people). This is the most scary- fearmongering book I have ever seen. May God forgive me for not paying close attention in my own home. Thank goodness the book remains in pristine hardly used condition. It is no wonder church has lost its appeal.

Have any of you ever closely looked at the pictures of the last day events in the JW magazines and books? They are really nightmare producing material. Go to www.watchthetower.org and you can see this stuff for yourself. In fact go to where it says, "Watchtower steals artwork" and log onto that. Apparently for the JW children's book they stole the art from the SDA Bible Story books. It's exactly the same pictures. I just figured it was no big deal that the JW stole from the SDA's. Look how much EGW stole. It's one and the same. Also, on that site you can read about the common early shared history during the Millerite movement of the SDA and the JW. Apparently the ones who became SDA and the ones who became JW couldn't agree on the date of Jesus's return so they became two seperate religious bodies, both extremely works based. It's an interesting site.

The art work from the SDA Bible Story books was done by Harry Anderson. I remember as a child feeling such pride in "our" own artist!

When I was teaching at Gem State Academy in the 70s, I was a chaperone on a musical tour from the academy to Salt Lake City. We toured the visitor's center, and to my amazement, there was a section of the building decortated with large murals by--yup--Harry Anderson!

Apparently he accepted the commission from them to decorate their building. I understand that the building has since been rennovated--there certainly are connections between SDAs, Mormons, and Jehovah's Witnesses.
