I have been a SDA since 94,and I can honestly say that the church I belonged too,or I should say the friends I estabilsed were not EGW quoting people. We believed in the bible and the bible only. However over the years, little things began to disturb me,such as "living a higher standard" "eating the perfect diet" so that I may be perfect. "Jewlery" being a sin. etc you all know the drill. And for a long time I would say the past three years I have just ignored them but Im finding it hareder to do. when EGW is preached from the pulpit I want to cringe and how many sermons do I have to hear about our doctrines? Every Sabbath,I leave church and wonder where the blessing was? I would still like to go to church on Saturday, for me I think its the right thing,I still believe in some of the church teachings,i just cant believe the sanctuary message,or the health message as a means of salvation, and I dont think EGW was a prophet. So where do I go from here? I have pretty much stopped going to church,i go maybe twice a month, but it's a new church and Im in Battle Creek,so know one knows me real well,. Im sure someone has been there done that. Any suggestions where I could continue to grow, and have fellwoship. My husband is in the same boat he's been there longer then me,and it all stared with the food issue for him how God couldnt hear our prayers if we didnt eat the perfect diet. He was SS super, elder very active in the church and now I'll be surprised if I can get him to go anywhere with me,the SDA church really did a number on him. Would appreciate prayers, and direction,Dawn in Michigan |

I'm just leaving the church and found sdaoutreach.com to be helpful. I didn't believe in the investigative judgment either. I read some literature put out by adventists years ago which says that "some" adventists believe in the investigative judgment. But, I did not know that this "is" the doctrine of the church. If you go to the official website, of the adventist church. It is number 24 on the following url: http://www.adventist.org/beliefs/fundamental/index.html - I went back and forth from their website to this one: sdaoutreach.com/judgment/exegesis.php - I still like having a healthy diet and mostly vegetarian because I have health problems. It isn't anything the doctors aren't saying in this age. This was one thing that appealed to me may years ago. Many christians weren't into eating well as I needed to. For me now it is just practicing good common sense, I'm not practicing it for religious reasons. Perhaps you can try some Sunday churches with your husband and talk to them if you feel comfortable. Most other christians are not out to hurt us. They sincerely want us to be saved. I've struggled for years and years. I want to be free of this. Please read about why you worship on Saturday according to the church and the sda outreach website. The bottom line is the adventist church tells us they are the remnant church and if you don't worship on Saturday you will not be saved. Christ will Judge you, you will go to hell with the other christians if you worship on Sunday. And all this is possible thanks to the investigative judgment, which was actually a prophetic vision. Ellen White what a prophet according to the church and her visions are as actual factual as everything you read in the bible (NOT REALLY- just read the bible). I personally thought making up the investigative judgment was arrogance on the part of the church for believing Jesus would return in 1844 and never admitting it was wrong. Please anyone correct me if I'm interpreting any of this inaccuragely. I am after all just leaving the church and learning. Thanks and bless you very much. |

Wolfgang, Just pray and pray and pray some more along with reading and studying only the Bible. That is what did it for me. God finally told me where He wanted me to fellowship and I did as He said. I felt at home when I sat down in the church He chose for me. He will do the same for you. He will do it because He loves you, promised to be with you and He is OHH so awesome. Diana |

According to Ellen White, the Investigative Judgment was, and is the central pillar of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. She was/is right about that because if you discover the sham that it is, Adventism falls with it. Lynne, you are right to reference sdaoutreach.org. That website was created to open SDA eyes to the truth about all of the things they have been told was "truth." Wolfgang, you can depend on the Lord's leading, as Diana has stated above. His love has been leading you or you would not be asking the questions you are asking, or searching for a church family to fellowship with. God has just that group of people for you, and it will be a place where you will be fed the truth of the Gospel, so don't lose heart, and when you are reading the scriptures, particularly when you are reading the epistles, if you get a moment of confusion or feel like you head has just drawn a blank, it is because you have tripped across something that we on here call cognitive dissonance. That simply means that you have just read a truth from scripture that you were not taught in SDAism. Worse yet, you may have been taught the exact opposite in SDAism. Trust the scriptures. God has been protecting and preserving them since they were first set down for his people to refer to. You are His! There are many studies about so many of the issues that became issues because of what we were taught in Adventism on this site. It might take a little research on your part, but you will find some very good information. We are here for you, and are praying for your success in finding a new church home. God be with you! You can go to the Bible Sabbath Association website abd find the names, addresses and discriptions of thousands of Sabbath observing Christian churches in North America. I think you can link to it through Dirk's website. I hope you try a Seventh Day Baptist church. I attended the SDB church regurally for around six years and totally liked being a Baptist. I would still be attending there except the congreation got too small and closed so the few remaining folks had to find another group to worship with and I was led to a local Lutheran church. Go to Dirk's website and at the bottom he has a link to Sabbath observing groups. That's a good place to start. Praying you find a church you feel comfortable in where the Lord is the leader. |

Wolfgang, welcome to the forum! Your experience brings up so many feelings and memories. You've come to a place where people can identify with your situation. Diana and Belva are right on. Pray for God's guidance, and trust the Scriptures. They are God's word to us, and He reveals Himself through them. He is holding you now, and He will not let you go! Colleen
