Speaking of the 3ABN dish on the prayer chain...does any other "denomination" or segment have such a thing? Do the mormons have the mormon tv network? I've heard of Daystar, TBN, PAX and some others, but I see a mix of evangelical and "less than" evangelical programming. But I would presume 3ABN is wholly SDA ... so that made me wonder if we have a Jehovah's Witness network? or the Baptist network? Or the Calvinist Network... you get the idea?? I'm obviously not aware of any, and it seemed to me the SDA might be a little technologically "advanced" in that perspective. Just curious. I know B's dad put in a dish for his mom in her nursing home, and I just thought it was a cable hook up, but apparently not?

On DirecTV, the Mormons do indeed have a network. It's called BYU. Channel 374.

The Adventists also have The Hope Channel. 3ABN is technically "independent", and the Hope Channel is the official church-operated sattelite network. Both are accessible by internet as well.

3ABN, in spite of being "independent", is loyal to the church and carries, of course, mainstream Adventist programming. You'll get true SDAism from it.

There is SDA pastors that find 3ABN to ortodox, not giving a true picture of SDAism. The aim with Hope Channel was to have a more local, contempory and evangelical channel. But in practice Hope Channel sends a major part of programs that is produced by 3ABN. I guess they do not have a budget to do good programs by their own. So 3ABN is still in control, enquraged/financed by people with the "right" message and a lot of money :-(

In Eastern Europe people have been tuched by 3ABN, and finding a comfortable place withing Jehovas W. They find no significant difference and the SDA-churches do not have the organisation to find them. This gives a good measure of the gospel 3ABN is giving in practise.

Bless

/D

PS. Yes - SDA have been good in taking the lead in new technologies. But this is a lesser important strategy in a postmodern society where relations is the key. DS.

It does give one pause if the 3ABN recruits, given no other outlet, will seek out JW's.

If anyone has access to the Adventist Today articles on 3 ABN, they are quite enlightening as to the highly questionable financial dealings of this organization. I think it is also true that 3ABN is the second largest Christian network next to TBN --which is called Heresy Broadcasting Network by thinking Christians. I wouldn't call either 3ABN or TBN true Christian networks.

Stan, is TBN headquartered in Orange County? If that is the one then I can only say I have difficulty with some of what they say. I don't watch it so probably shouldn't even say that much. :-)

Richard, TBN is headquartered in Tustin, California - in Orange County.

http://www.tbn.org

They are Hank Hanegraaf's personal whipping boy. I do think that a very high proportion of their programming is heretical.

There are a few programs on weekends such as D.James Kennedy and a few others that are very good, but Paul and Jan Crouch cater to all the false prophets of the health and wealth gospel. This is the proud home of Benny Hinn, who owns a ten million dollar home and pays his son's girlfriend 5,000 dollars per hour to babysit. He and many others in that movement teach the blasphemous doctrine of the born-again Jesus, who after he died on the cross had to go to hell and become born again. Benny himself teaches that before the second coming of Christ that Jesus will pay a visit in person and do miracles such as raising the dead again. This, of course could only be the anti-Christ. But also remember that Ellen White claimed to have over 100 personal visits from Christ himself which were not just visions, but actual visits. This is documented by a study from a La Sierra Univ. professor. I will get the exact link for that info if interested.

Here is the link to the 100 personal visits from Christ that EGW claimed www.truthorfables.com/EGW_100%20_Visit_%20From_%20Christ.htm

This just shows that there are no new heresies under the sun whether from Benny Hinn and the word-faith teachers or from EGW.

Yes, there are many heretical's on TBN, but I think I've seen Charles Stanley's program on there...I don't get cable, and it only comes in fuzzy through the "natural" airwaves, so I rarely watch anything on it, just notice Stanley occasionally as I'm cruising the dial. It's very difficult, I did see Gracia Burnham on one of the talk shows (don't know the guy's name, maybe the Crouches) and it was very interesting to hear her story, but since I've heard such negativity about TBN, I didn't know what to think about her being on their show. I know she was just selling her book and going where they sent her. I'm certainly surprised at the rise of the heretical wealth gospel teachers. Wish they didn't call themselves Christians. It's hard to accept that the Christianity I recognize from scripture is becoming more and more obscure in the world out there with all the errant groups. How anyone discerns is truly the grace of God.

Charles Stanley is awesome! His ministry was very instrumental in helping my sister process out of SDAism. I could listen to him all day long.

The problem with TBN is that, for every spoonful of Charles Stanley and D. James Kennedy it serves up, it pours out a bucketful of Paula White, Juanita Bynum, Benny Hinn, and Rod Parsley.

Another person who appears on TBN regularly, I understand, is Clifton Davis. Does anyone remember when he was the pastor on the sitcom "Amen"? He was also an Adventist pastor--he was on staff at the LLU Church during at least part of the time he was on the show.

He did quite a bit of private study during the early 90's (if I understood his time frame correctly) and finally realized that Adventism wasn't Biblically defensible. He had talks with "the brethren" who were also nervous about his role as an actor.

At any rate, he is a former Adventist now and attends a local Christian church in his hometown.

I haven't actually watched him on TBN, so I don't really know what he's saying--I just know he's a former who is praying for his still-SDA family members.

It's out-of-state, Richard--since he wishes to be somewhat low-profile, I don't feel free to say more.

I knew he was an SDA pastor, and have often wondered what happened to him. Praise God, he found Jesus and responded to Him.

Hi folks. I am new here....

I have been 'lurking' for a couple of months.

Perhaps I am missing this in the document linked on truthorfables, but it appears that the commentator says that the 'visitor' that EGW had was Christ, but I don't see where SHE says it...

I am not trying to cause trouble, but if what the article implies is true, it is just 'one more nail in the coffin' for me.

Hi Insearchof,
Welcome to FAF and I am glad you came out of the lurking mode.
I have not been on the truthorfables site for a while so I cannot comment on what you are saying.
Just want to say welcome. When you are ready, tell us something about yourself.
God is such an awesome God.

Welcome Insearchof to FAF! You are right. She doesn't actually say it herself but I believe Arthur White is the one who relayed this info about what his mother told him. Dr Fred Hoyt, the historian who came up with this teaches at LaSierra Univ. He has researched this well, and stands by the story 100%. He recently re-iterated these facts in a recent Adventist Today article. You might want to email Dr Hoyt to clarify it further.
