I have a tape of a TV show where Pr. Walter Martin was debating Adventist Review Editor William G. Johnsson. Mr. Johnsson was not doing well against Pr. Martin. Finally, Johnsson took refuge in the statement that to be a member of the SDA church, you had to profess allegiance in the 27 fundamental beliefs at the time of your baptism. He said that while still denying you had to believe in EGW to be an adventist. So in light of this, whatever happened to all those folks who got baptized in the '40's, 50's and 60's, before there were 27 fundamental beliefs? Did they have to get "rebaptized" as the list of fundamental beliefs increased? Did they have to make a public statement of allegiance? What happens to current members, now that there has been a new belief added? Is their membership in the SDA church "grandfathered in"? Pradez |
