Grug06. I was in the same situation as you regarding where I stood about joining the SDA church. Coming from a weak Presbyetrian background, I really didn't know the Bible at all, but it seemed clear when it's presented through the SDA, especially when you have no idea about how to examine the scriptures for yourself. I just took their word for it and joined. I left after a year and a half, as I knew this is not where God wanted me. It took more time to shake off many of the false teachings than it did for me to learn them. I say be careful with your decision. Really pray about it, I mean, really pray hard.

Dear Trev, It is so nice meeting you. I only get to the internet about once per week so I'm usually a bit behind on catching up with what's going on in this forum. Having been raised Catholic I would assume you were baptized as a young child or infant. I believe much different on some things than do a lot of folks on this fourm and I'm sure most who post here will disagree with me but I'll share my perspective anyway. The Bible and Christianity teaches one bapitism. If you were baptized as a baby then you are a bapitized Christian. Have you studied for your confirmation? Confirmation will teach you the basics of true Christianity. Enough of that. Back when I was 17 years old and I wanted to be bapitzed a Christian I approached the SDA minister and asked that he baptize me on profession of Christian faith. He refused. So I had him baptize me, I became a bonified member of the SDA denomination and several weeks later I wrote to the church and told them they'd best remove my name because I never wanted it there anywaye, study and folly the leading of the Holy Spirit. BTW, EGW is a sham.

Welcome Trev!
I really appreciated reading your fresh insights into faith. I can't add anything to the good advise those posting above have given you. I will be praying that you make this decision after a lot of prayer and study. On this forum, we will be here to support you.

I am very happy that you read that article. When you talk to your pastor, please determine (quietly) if he is happy you read it or not. And let the Lord lead you as to how to proceed. Sometimes when there are questions, the best thing to do is stand still, and wait on the Lord for direction. He sees your heart and knows your desire to make a public declaration. But your reasons and intentions for baptizing may be different from the words that are used during your baptism. I encourage you to also look at the adventist.org and look in the Church Manual link, and find the baptismal wording.. It says more than just accepting Jesus. It alludes to being baptized into the church that acknowledges EGW as a prophet with gifts. Is this your aim? Or were you looking to be buried with Jesus and to be raised with Jesus, taking on HIS life and death as your own? Personally, I was only baptized with Jesus Christ references being spoken. May the Lord Lead you and pray for wisdom. The Lord will give it to you.. I am very, very happy that you read that article!!

Tracey or anyone?? Where can I find a copy of the 27? Are the baptismal vows the same as the 27 fundamentals or a condensed version of them.

I guess my awkward question is . . . are the baptismal vows one and the same as the infamous "27 fundamentals"?

Also is there a way of seeing how they have evolved over time. I'm curious what they said when I was baptised in about 1956 or 57.

Colleen I'm exhusted and tired so don't use your red pen on my syntax etc. ! ! ! :-)

Richard here are the links from the official home page of the SDA organization:

27 Fundamentals

Baptismal Vow

I'm sure I've read a history of the evolution of the 27 somewhere, but can't put my virtual hands on it right now. I'll look around.

Hey! HeLovesMe!
I am doing good.. I can't believe how long I have been gone. But I really had to let some of this go for a while and focus on graduating. I decided I really needed to put myself first and not C and all the "stuff".

We will be attending a formers bible study in Cincy next month and I and Raven are coordinating it. Pray.

I miss you all and will be back more consistently soon!

Thanks Tracey for posting about our upcoming event--I was thinking it should get posted. If anyone is in the area and/or wants to drive to a little north of Cincinnati, come and join us for social interaction, Bible study, and just an informal time to enjoy each other's company. Right now the date is set for July 17, and I think that's a firm date.
