Hello everyone,

They rushed her to intensive care because she was having issues breathing. They put her on a ventilator which was supposed to last for about 5 weeks. This morning I went to visit her and they told me that she took herself off of the ventilator. They said that she had yanked it off of her face and pulled the tube out of her mouth and tried to suck on the cord. They then gave her a patsifier and she threw it behind her head. So they have now taken her off of IV and are preparing to feed her formula milk. God is truly good.

My in laws showed their behinds since she was born on their Sabbath. The Gentiles, which are mostly my family and friends, were ignored. They didn't speak no more than 4 words to us. It was like the Jews and Gentiles at the Counsel in Jerusalem.

Let me be the first to say congrats hrob!! Your inlaws cant get much ruder than that!! What are her stats, weight, length, hair etc? Sounds like she is doing really well. Do you ever watch discovery health's "baby's special delivery"? The baby's go into the NICU all the time and come out happy and healthy. Anyway, now that that you have a newborn look out for so much fun! (sort of)
Motherly,

She is 3 pounds and 4 ounces. She is 15 inches long, with long black hair. My in laws are idiots.

Wow so tiny, just like a little doll!! I bet she is adorable. Did the doctor say how long she will have to stay at the hospital? You will be in preemie clothes for a while. My daughter was 6'7" when she was born, and she fit into preemie clothes. It makes me want another one!!
Enviously,

Hannah,

They told us last night that she would be in there for 8 weeks. But after this morning, they don't know what to say. If she can continue to breath and gain wait they may let her go early.

Congratulations on the lovely little baby girl, Hrob. You will know moments of absolute joy and absolute terror, like when she is sick and cannot tell you what is wrong, but God's hand is on her and her Mommy and Daddy-you.
As for your in-laws, they do not know what they are missing by being like that. Just be very careful about what they give to your child. They will want to give her SDA books. Even the SDA Bible story books are tainted. Continue to pray for them, and so will I.
I will go to the shop at the Aladdin and look for that baseball uniform and see if they have it in baby sizes, like they have for the military. I have not forgotten that.
Give your wife our love and to your baby, Dakota, also. Babies are such a gift from God.

Hrob, Just Awesome, Fantastic, God is so Good! You obviously have one tough little girl and that is great, I have a tough girl too. My three boys were all born 2 to 2 1/2 weeks early, and they were just fine. It was my tough girl who was two days late and we tease her because she's still running behind. Children are one of the biggest blessings we receive from our Lord. Congratulations, just enjoy her now, the time goes fast.

the monster in law brought a book to the hospital to read to the baby while I wasn't there. She said that she was going to read the story of David and Goliath to her for the Sabbath. She didn't get to read it and I will let her know that I will read to the baby in the morning for our little sunday school.

Hrob, congratulations... How early was she? Even with mine being 5 weeks early, they were both 5 lb 11 oz. Yours is a tiny little blessing. I tell everyone...take a picture next to a doll or toy you will keep. It will give you perspective one day because you'll never remember how small she was. I still have the stuffed animal that I've taken my older kids with and it's hard to believe they were ever that small...looking at me nose to nose as they do now.

I'm so sorry your inlaws have tried to taint this time for you. Please feel free to tell them you'll see them LATER when they're feeling better.

Is Mom doing okay?

Hrob,
I am sorry to tell you that I looked in various shops in the Alladin and Ceasar's Palace and could not find a baseball uniform for your little girl. The shops have the military uniforms for babies and small kids, but not baseball uniforms. I tried though.
Continue to be strong for your wife and child. Your in laws will try all kinds of things to influence your child. Ask God's help, so that it does not happen. And continue to pray for them.
How is your wife, now that you have told us about the baby??
Children are such a gift from God.

I can't add anything new, but I can validate what has already been said. God has placed his greatest blessing in your arms. Love her, never let her doubt that. As for the in-laws, only time will tell. I still don't understand their upset about the child being born on the Sabbath. Babies don't know the laws and so they they are born any old time and that is perfectly alright. I'm not sure if hospitals still have a hard and fast rule about babies weighing in at five pounds before they can go home, but you will be surprised how soon that time will come around. My best to you and your lovely wife. Hugs and kisses to everyone.

Hrob,

A hearty congratulations to you and your wife on the precious addition to your family. You have truly been blessed with a priceless gift from the Creator who had her in mind from before the genesis of time. And let's be honest here, Hrob...the world can use more Cardinals fans! Redbird fans begat Redbird fans, am I right? We're counting on you to bring her up right, if you know what I mean. :-)

Oh, and hrob, I don't know if you realize this but your daughter was born with an advantage, afterall. On the day she was born the Cards beat the Astros 2-0 and Albert Pujols homered. She's off to a great start!:-)

Congratulations Hrob.... Hope momma is doing well. Sleep all you can during the next 8 weeks!
I'll never forget those night-time feedings with our baby (we had four) laying between us as she nursed. Something precious about recalling the sound of those tiny lips slurping mother's milk.
Kinda made you feel like God Himself was leaning over the bed smiling. Hope your wife can nurse.
Fixing a bottle throughout the night is a pain in the lower extremity! :c)

You now have Papa or Grandpa to look forward to down the line, if our Lord doesn't come first. What a thrill it is to have grand-munchkins!

Hrob, congratulations! Tell your wife we're proud of her, too.

I'm still trying to figure out your in-laws. Were they REALLY upset because the baby was born on Sabbath, or were they upset because their daughter isn't respecting the Sabbath in her life anymore, and they consider you to blame?

I second all the advice above. You don't need to allow them to read or otherwise teach your daughter anything. You do have the parental responsibility to tell them (politely!) that you don't want them doing certain things if you see them trying. Just be sure that you don't make an issue out of something that in itself isn't an issue!

(But do I ever understand your irritation with their assumption of permission to indoctrinate the baby and ignore your family! Unfortunately, that reaction is all to common in Adventists when they perceive that one of their own has slipped beyond their reach. If your wife were "in the world" they would be much less upset than they are now.)

Praying for you and your wife to have wisdom and strength,

Colleen

Congratulations Hrob!! Dakota sounds like a spunky little girl. Hope mom's doing well.

Both my babies were born on Sunday. But I was in labor on the Sabbath. So was I breaking the 4th commandments ? :-)

Colleen,

I think maybe option B. I don't want her mother there with her without me around. This is the last time that I put up with her family like this. We have multiple cook outs with freinds and family. Her mother and sister gather together with their friends and make everyone else feel uncomfortable. It is almost like they feel that they are too good to speak to Genitle folk. They did it at the hospital this weekend. My parents are having their first discriminating experience with them. They left the room and went around the corner. ALL of our friends left the room and went around the corner. It was an obvious division amongst the people. Her mother is allowed to visit between 10:00am-10:30am and 8:00pm to 8:30pm. I need to call Dakota's nurse and have her monitor what my wife's mother reads to her.
