I guess Dan Smith believes in the same impotent god that other liberal SDAs such as Richard Rice believe in. It just amazes me, and especially recently when I thought about what Rice and others teach (that "God" doesn't know the future), it just hit me that how could God plan things for us in advance if He doesn't even know what's going to happen in the future??!
But the more I think about what Smith wrote, limiting "God" to certain distances on this earth--it just makes me really outraged!!! Wow. It seems that no matter what the variety, in SDAism it's always a different "god" than the God of the Bible.

Yes trisha it was a wonderful experience. It was not the first and but one of many times I have felt such closeness. It is not something we generate through choreographing a worship service or manipulating the emotions by dragging out an altar call.
I believe it is God's will that we dwell in His presence and have a peace and joy of resting in His will. Even when we might not "feel" it we can rest in that promise. Do I always feel it? NO but I can believe it by faith. He is always faithful to me.

You are right on. I finished dinner not too long ago, and on reading Dan Smith's treatise on prayer posted above, I got this sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. Folks, it is not unloving to attack this kind of trash that is being promoted by these liberals. Since Dan Smith wrote the book, "Lord, I have a question", I would have to ask him, "Dan, what "lord" are you asking the questions of?" This is the same Dan Smith who is promoting the doctrine of "everyone is saved unless you just don't want to go to heaven", and then if you don't want to go there is no judgment to face. Now isn't that great news! Where does this kind of teaching come from? If this is not doctrines of d----- I don't want to use that word, then would someone define it for me?

My prayers are with you for your knee operation tomorrow. What a great testimony of Dr. Yu, a Christian doctor who does indeed have a correct doctrine of prayer. I wish I knew more physicians like that. That story of the "almost amputee" is really powerful.

Thank you for your post. Although I agree with others here that censorship is not the answer, I do believe it is helpful and necessary to be reminded that there is a dual purpose for this site, that "there are potentially scores of people from around the globe, all in varying stages of Adventism, who are perusing this site."
I lurked at this site for some time before I posted. As a person who had not completely severed all ties with Adventism at the time, I had a difficult time swallowing some of the comments that I read. So many were encouraging and supportive. A few others were condemning and almost elitist. I was desparate to escape a system that felt it had ALL truth. The last thing I wanted was to get involved in another group that seemingly felt it had all of the answers (and that dissenters need not apply).
I was REALLY struggling with the Sabbath when I first posted on FAF, and I was honest about my struggle. Some of the responses that I received were much less than warm. Of course, I have long since abandoned the Sabbath as the Holy Spirit has guided my study. However, I can still remember how it felt to be questioning, scared and frustrated by some of the posts on FAF.
At the end of the day, all of us might admit that we DON'T have it all figured out. Although each of us has been going through a growth process since leaving Adventism, I would hope that NONE of us would allege that we have found ALL TRUTH! I continue to learn new things every day.
For those of us who post here, it might be good to occasionally reconnect with how we felt when we first began questioning--the fear--the confusion--the uncertainty. If we can keep that in the back of our minds, it might help us as we reflect on the tone of our posts. Self censorship is probably the best kind (i.e. listening carefully to that still small voice prior hitting "post this message").
I remain eternally grateful to God for this site, as it was a key ingredient in my exodus from Adventism. May God continue to bless this ministry as we continue to spread the gospel. |

This thread has been very interesting. I wanted to say that I am fairly new to this forum, and I was greated warmly when I first posted. But it scares me to say a whole lot cause I'm afraid of being judged if my opinion doesn't match the majority here. This fear more than likely stems from "being under judgement" all my life. I am very careful what I say. If I dissagree, I probably will keep quiet. For that reason I don't post much. |

Noone here seems to always be in the majority. One of the beautiful things here is that we can agree and disagree (sometimes even strongly) without being judged or labelled. It is probably a new experience for many people. While many of us share a common past experience, it doesn't mean that we have all come to the same conclusions about every issue. And the process of learning that we don't all have to agree all of the time is, by itself, a healing touch on many of our lives.
I hope I am making at least a little sense...
And mostly I want to encourage you that there isn't a need for fear here. Even if many disagree with you, you are almost certain to find others who agree and/or understand. |

I do not want to start a new thread for this so I am posting it here as it is about adventism.
I received the books I ordered from LAM. Today I called my church and asked to make an appointment with the head minister, Jud Wilhite. He is going on vacation and I will not be able to see him until some time after the first of September. I am giving him the books "Are Seventh day Adventists False Prophets", The Trith about Seventh day Adventist Truth", "Cultic Doctrine", and "Discovering the New Covenant". Please pray for me and for the pastor and all the pastors at my church. I want them all to know what SDAs believe and I do not want to come across as a person seeking to blacken any one churches reputation. It will be a few months before I talk to him, though. One of the pastors, that I spoke to said SDAs seemed like good Christians. There are many SDAs who are good Christians, but I want people to know what they believe.
