Hi All, I just read the, "False Claims Refuted" book by Cantwright. It was a great read, and I want to send this to my dad. However, I have to be prepared for his churchs' obvious critism of the book "Cantwright recanted on his deathbed." Interestingly, he writes in this book that he fully expects the SDA to claim he recanted on his deathbed. I saw "Seventh Day Adventism Renounced" by him on ebay. On this listing the seller goes on to give a brief description of the book then underdeath in red letters, the seller writes "If you are SDA, don't bother to write me how Cantwright recanted on his deathbed, there is no proof of this and I will have you suspended from ebay." I had to laugh. It is funny, but can anyone direct me to any evidence that he didn't recant as surely my dad will take this to his pastor who will reiterate that claim. | ||

It seems to me that somewhere his secretary is quoted about this topic...and she affirms that he did not recant, but I can't tell you where. All of his books are available online as downloads. At http://www.sdaoutreach.org/ you can find a list of PDF downloads, one of which is Canright's book "The Lord's Day from neither Catholic nor Pagan" by DM Canright.pdf. It has in it a section at the very beginning called his present standing, where he talks about the claim he supposedly will recant. That might help. I can't find the section from his secretary, but perhaps someone else will know where it is. | ||

The SDA book "I Was Canright's Secretary" asserts that Canright knew he was demon-possessed, lost, etc. The woman who was his secretary, presumably, has long since passed away. I wonder what kind of bribery or influence was used on her to get her to provide her false testimony. I read her book years ago, when I was an SDA, and of course, took it to be true - without thinking to question its veracity. | ||
