I have been on CARM for many years, and there are always staunch SDA defenders on the SDA forum. We often experience SDAs who pose as non-SDAs who are being converted to SDAism. What are they trying to accomplish? One person in particular, an avid Ellen defender, has come back in 4 or 5 different personae so far. And his style is always recognizable. He always plays dumb (not only about SDAism, but about computer techniques and forum formatting also), he always uses the same formatting techniques, and he always misspells the very same words. And then thinks we will be so duped that we won't recognize him.

Why the attempts at deception?
How can they possibly believe that "truth" can be defended with lies and fraud?

Incredible!

So often the membership has witnessed the evangelists sneak around with regard to their prophecy meetings. In fact, that has been the whole approach for so long that it has given the general membership the idea that any underhanded methodology, so long as the end purpose is to get someone to accept the SDA way, is okay to use. It is sad that an organization that will turn itself insideout in order to convince people that the 4th commandment is still in force, will lie and cheat to achieve that end. Isn't lying and cheating breaking the 8th and 9th commandments?

That has always been my question:
Is it justifiable to break one commandment to defend another?

That is a rhetorical question, isn't it? We are both in agreement here.

Hi, my name is Annmarie and I am new to the forum. Although still a baptized Adventist, I feel the faith is strangling me spiritually. I want to get away and the other members of the church pick up on this and try to convince me to come back. They are very persuasive. However, I do not feel a part of the whole hypocritcal scene anymore. I have a new job (the first one I have had in 15 years because I have been a stay-at-home mom. I am proud of this and already I am hearing how I shouldn't miss Bible meetings and about working on Saturday. There is no way I am giving up this position, which I need desperately to help my husband, who was the only one working until I got this position. We live in a bad section of Phoenix, AZ. I have visited other Adventist homes. No one seems to live in an apartment (first of all) and they certainly do not live in a bad part of town. I refuse to be judged if I have to work on Saturday to help support and better my family. It is easy for most Adventists to talk while they have nice homes, several new cars, etc. Talk about materialism and unbelievable hypocrisy. It was okay for them to acquire material possessions but if a non well-to-do Adventist wants to better themselves, they shouldn't do it on Saturday. I will worship my Lord and Savior Christ Jesus on the day I see fit, not an organization that was co-founded by a woman, Ellen White, whose mental health I find questionable. Thanks for listening and God Bless you all.

Annmarie, welcome to the forum! We are glad you're here, and you will find many new friends who will understand what you're experiencing.

People will always misunderstand us when we say Yes to Jesus. It just goes with the territory. Trusting Him is the great divide among humans.

Congratulations, BTW, on your job! You can praise God for providing it for you and for making it possible for you to help your husband now. Does your husband share your spiritual views, by the way?

Have you found a place to worship? You are very close to Mark Martin's church, Calvary Chapel Phoenix. Mark, as you may know, is a former SDA, and he is a wonderful preacher. You can check out his church at the website www.calvaryphx.com

During all the ups and downs of your new conviction, remember that Jesus will keep your heart safe. You can trust Him. Remember to pray and to turn to the Bible when the doubts and fears bombard you.

Philippians 4:4-7: "Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is neaer. Do not be anxious about anything, but lin everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

We look forward to hearing more of your story!

Annmarie, welcome! We are very glad you've joined us on the forum.

I second Colleen's recommendation of Pastor J. Mark Martin's church, Calvary Community Church. It is the church on the I-17 freeway with the nice big messaging sign/billboard with the huge star on it, between Cactus and Thunderbird. Pastor Mark's teaching is wonderful, grace-centered and right out of the Word of God. Plus, he understands us former Adventists (and Adventism!), being one himself. If you want to, you can first watch or listen live to their services online at the website Colleen linked to above.

I live in Arizona--and used to live in the Phoenix area. I'm just curious, which SDA church do you go to? I wonder if you know some of the people we used to know.

Anyway, again, welcome!

God bless,

Jeremy

Also, Annmarie, remember these verses and take them to heart: "Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ." (Colossians 2:16-17 NIV.)

Ann Marie,
Welcome to FAF, a place where you will find a lot of support as you leave adventism and enter the body of Christ. Just remember, God is holding you in His awesome hands at this time and He will not let go of you. He has brought you this far and will not drop you. He loves you so much.
