Colleen, Boy was I irritated when I went to pick up my mail at the post office this morning and saw the new Proclamation! sitting there. Of all days for it to arrive...I had one appointment after another... As I have gone through the day, I have found bits of space to squeeze in a few paragraphs here and there (at stop lights, in line at the bank, waiting for an appointment). It is an awesome edition. THANK YOU for putting all the IJ info in just one issue. What a great resource to have on hand. Your love for Jesus is evident as well as your love for those in bondage. I am so fortunate to be on the receiving end of God's working through you. Thanks, too, for all those who gave of their time and insight to share - I love the pictures -- Dirk is young! Well he is my age it would appear... Thanks for making a busy day so very enjoyable! |

I received the Proclamation today also. What a fabulous magazine. I haven't read all of it yet, but will with enthuiasm. I will be saving all of them for "the day my parents want them." Thanks for all of the work that must go into them. |

Colleen, Is it possible for me to have one of these "Proclamations"? And while I do know what a scapegoat is, can you explain further to me about the scapegoat doctrine? What I read on the "No One Ever is to Blame" posts really threw me. Do you think that I should get this information to my brother? I have refrained from sending him anything since I started coming here. Your sister in Christ, Foreverscout |

Yes, email me your mailing address to proclamation@gmail.com. I'll put you on the mailing list. As far as your brother is concerned, I don't really know how he might react. Is he hostile to anything negative toward Adventism? Is he simply ignorant of the facts? Some people find the blinders begin to fall off when they start learning the truth. Others get angry. I do think, sooner or later, Adventists need at least to hear the Biblical truth compared to "Adventist truth", and they need to hear the truth about repentance and accepting Jesus' sacrifice for their sins. If you read Levitics 16, you'll find the instructions for the Day of Atonement for Israel. Included are the commands for selecting the burnt offering and the scapegoat offering on which the high priest symbolically placed all the sins of Israel each year and sent the animal into the wildnerness to bear the sins outside the camp. As you read the chapter, bear in mind that Adventists say that scapegoat represents Satan, when in reality both animals represent Jesus and his bearing our sins far from us and dying our death. If you think he might read it, we can sent Proclamation to your brother if you send his address, too. Colleen |

Woohoo I received my first Proclaimation! I second all above thoughts. But here's an odd comment. I love the negative letters! We were on some Adventist periodical's mailing list long after my husband left the church and the letters to the editor were all so happy and glowing it confirmed my thought that the denomination tolerated no dissention of any kind. I loved that John Milton quote when I was in journalism school "Let truth and error grapple..." I wish I could remember the rest. It basically says let them fight it out in public because truth will win. I also loved the stories. When my husband was an Adventist I would pore every former Adventist story I found to try and figure out what the turning point was for them. They also gave me hope. What is your circulation? Whatever it is, it should be bigger! Congratulatorily, Hannah

Hannah, your Milton reference comes from the Areopagitica, written in 1644 as an appeal to the English government to rescind their review and censorship of documents prior to publication. Here's more of the passage: "Let [Truth] and Falsehood grapple; who ever knew Truth put to the worse in a free and open encounter? Her confuting is the best and surest suppressing." You can read more about the Areopagitica here. Greg |

Colleen, I was already aware of the scapegoat offerings for Israel in Leviticus; the thing where EGW belives Satan is bearing our sin really blows me away. How screwed up is that!?! It's so difficult for me to understand how someone can so misunderstand the Bible. When I don't understand something, I look for clarification in other books of the bible. I ask my pastor. I talk with trusted friends in study. Sometimes I take it on faith and just accept that I won't understand all till I see Him face to face. I certainly don't go about making stuff up to fit my way of thinking. And then to DELIBERATELY MISLEAD scores of people; what she has done is sinful. If God were to give scores to sins, (which of course he does not, sin is one size fits all); this sin would be a 10 on the Richter scale! Gosh, it makes me so angry. As far as my brother is concerned, he has always been angry with anyone who tried to disagree with him about anything, anyone who disagrees with him is basically an idiot. If **** says the sky is green, woe unto him who tries to say the sky is actually blue. But I wonder if he knows all this weird stuff, and if he doesn't he certainly needs to know. He needs to know before it's too late! Send it to me first, I've already sent you the email with my address, I'll show it to my sister and we will make the decision together. Meanwhile I will keep praying for him. Thank you Colleen for all that you do, when you go Home, He will say, "Well done, good and faithful servant". Foreverscout |

Hi Colleen, I sent you my information a while back in order to receive Proclamation. I am a little jealous! Every one is talking about the mgazine and I'm still waiting. Am I on your list? I sure hope so! I have been told that a good friend of mine has written an article. Also, please pray for us is Huntsville Al. Dr. Kenneth Brantley is starting a bible study group here for Ex Adventist and for current Adventist who are questioning the church's doctrine. I am excited because our group will be filled with young adult couples who are on fire for Jesus...

Faithe, I remember getting your name--sometimes delivery is delayed in some areas for a variety of different reasons. Could you email me your mailing address again, just so I can double check and be sure you're there? If you don't get this issue this week, let me know. I'll send you one. And by the way, Foreverscout, I understand how angry you feel. I remember how outraged I was when I realized the implications of saying Satan was the scapegoat. It is this doctrine and others which are related and similar in intent that convince me no mere human mind could have manufactured this theology. If the doctrines were merely human, People would be the ultimate focal point and heroes. As it is, when you really look at it, Satan is given backhanded hero status in Adventist theology. Yes, they say Jesus gets the glory, but Satan has a sort-of tragic hero role. I just praise God for Jesus! Colleen |

Hi there everyone...Shontay here. As I write this, I am still in awe of His grace and tender mercies that are fresh and new with each new dawn! I am writing this because of the overwhelming response I have gotten from SDAs that question my choice of walking after Christ solely. It really blows me away that people actually think I wanted this to happen! I am guilty of but one thing - loving Jesus Christ!! I had not been SDA all my life, but my devotion told another story. He is my ALL, my air, my joy, my life, and when He opened my eyes to HIMSELF...I had NO choice, but to follow my Jesus, even with tears flowing. I have NO regrets! I KNOW Whom I serve and I count this entire experience ALL joy...I want to be in tune with His will...you know? I am so aware of my freedom now!! The Son truly has set me free and I KNOW that I am saved!!! My question to you all is this: How did you handle the lonelies? I am not a memeber of any particular church right now, and I am welcomed by few SDAs. Like, some of them will talk, email and maybe even attend a dinner I give, but as far as meaningful friendships...well, i have very, very few of them. This has only been one year and I have become somewhat of a hermit. I am open to all comments and advice. Thanks, you guys. Isn't He the BEST? Taybie |

Dear Shontay, Have you found another Church community to be a part of? That is so important, but each of us has approached it in our own time, and I don't want to sound like I'm pushing you to that step if you have not yet taken it. For me, becoming a part of a small group in Bible study was the key. I not only found the answers I was seeking in the words of scripture, I found nine other women who love Jesus with all their hearts, and they had room left in their hearts for me. We are so devoted to each other that we get together at times when the organized bible studies are not held. We pray for each other, for each other's kids, projects, families, you name it. It has been through these people that I have truly come to know what it means to be with the people who love the Lord. I pray that you will find your way past this loneliness. We are here for you any time you need us, but a computer screen and keyboard cannot provide the human touch. It is so easy to shut yourself in, but you need to open up the door and step outside to find others. I will assure you that once you get into relationship with the people who truly trust Jesus for ALL of their salvation you will find people who aren't looking to judge you. They really will be looking to love you for Jesus! God Bless! Belva |

Shontay, I just realized that I neglected to click on "post", so my message to you here earlier today never showed up! I second Belva's advice about finding a Christian community. It is vital to be able to talk to others who've left Adventism; it's also vital to find a Christian fellowship where Bible study is through completely different eyes. Dd and also Ric and Raven on this forum have both been part of Bible Study Fellowship, a nondenominational, international Bible study that studies systematically book by book. I know actually quite a few "formers" who have attended BSF and have loved it and learned a LOT about the Bible. It's also a good place to find a community of christians who will pray for you, care about you, etc. You can go online and check for a chapter near you. Another good group is Community Bible Study--similar to BSF. I've also heard it recommended very highly. Of course, ask God to direct you to a church where He knows you can grow and be fed. It is important to be in fellowship--both with formers as well as with the larger body of Christ. Praying for you! Colleen |

(Smiling sheepishly) Yes, you are right Helovesme2, I did post twice. I thought I was starting a new discussion, but apparently I only added to a thread. I will begin to walk out of my door more often. I almost got up the nerve to go to a church I had heard about. I am going to keep praying. |
