Lisa mentions that she attended alumni weekend at Gem State. I was wondering what schools others went to.

Spring Valley Academy, Dayton OH ('82). I was spared the experience of a boarding academy!

I've gone to every single reunion but one since '82 up till my 20th in 2002. Then I haven't gone since. Not sure if I'll go my 25th. (I still live in the area--that's why it's so easy to go to reunions.)

Raven, I taught at Spring Valley Academy the first year it opened. We didn't even have a roof yet, and had to wear our coats in the classroom during the winter!

Chisholm Trail Academy, Keene, Texas.

I attended the 20th reunion this last April and only a few are still in the SDA church from the class.

Yes Bob, I've heard a lot about that first year at most of the alumni weekends! However, I think that was probably the year before I started first grade and I lived in a different state then.

Did you teach Bible class? If you hadn't left the SDA church, you probably could have been invited back as a guest speaker to one of the alumni Sabbath services...

I attended 'junior academy' in Kansas City, then Enterprise Academy in Kansas for one year, then graduated from Maplewood Academy in Hutchinson, MN in '75. Went to Union College for a year.
Since I'm back in MN, I've been to a few alumni weekends - some out-of-town family usually come to them and it's my chance to see them. I've quit going to the church part, though, it creeps me out. just can't take it.

Raven, yes, I was fresh out of the seminary, and I taught Bible classes to grades 7 through 12. I was already getting into trouble with parents back then, because I was teaching the kids the Gospel, and some parents were sensitive to the fact that this was not "standard" SDA teaching!
That year was very discouraging for me, especially since we didn't have much administrative encouragement, and the conditions were so primitive.

Yes, Esther, there was a Burton. I can't remember his name just now and my yearbooks are locked up in storage. He was a very intense young man, curly blond hair and blue eyes. Oh, how I wish I could remember his name. He seemed trouble-prone as I recall.

Oops, then it wouldn't be any of my immediate family as no one is blond. My mom, an aunt, and an uncle were at Sandia View in the 60's and 70's, so I wondered? Oh well.
