I was at the post office earlier and ran into my friend. He is SDA. He told me there is a group of SDA off-shoots in Texas, he didn't know for sure where but he thinks he heard they are living at the Branch Davidian compound in Waco. Anyway their leader has decided that EGW was the most perfect person ever and she also had the most insight to total truth. The leader of these whack-o's has his people pray to EGW in interessory prayer. I said to my friend, "You mean like the Catholics petition the saints on their behalf, askimg the saints to pleed their cases beore God?" He said, "No. not like that at all. These people believe EGW attained a state of perfection and was so near God that she has divine powers, she is like God only not quite up to His level. She's a God, too but less God than God." I said to my friend, "Ooooooh, that's some really weird sh*t you're telling me. I hope those people don't end up dying. I hope they get outta there real fast." Then he asked me how come the SDA church seems to have more fanatics than other groups. I didn't have much time to be chit-chatting there in the post office parking lot but I told him just because they have a modern day prophit to base their religion on and not on the Bible alone is reason enuf to draw the fanatics. Have any of you heard of this group? What is thir name? Is the SDA denomination aware of hem? If so, what does the denomination have to say about this? Also, have you others out there noticed the SDA denomination really does tend to have mre than it's fair share of off-shoot fanitics and weird groups? |

Dear Susan-2, Based on my recollections only, I've seen more weirdos in SDA churches than in any other place asside from homeless people on street corners with placards. Now, I know that churches are supposed to be seen as hospitals for sinners, but let's get real. I've seen whole families that appeared to need serious counseling, with overbearing fathers oppressing their wives and children while using EGW and scripture to give them permission to iron-fist their families. I've seen women walking around in biblical robes who insisted that God required women to never cut their hair. There have been any number of ungroomed, unwashed individuals who insisted that God wanted us to ignore our physical selves and concentrate on becoming spiritual. The most prominant weirdos in the SDA church are the health weirdos. When you start talking about salvation and grace to them they immediately start talking about diet. It is almost as though mankind is made right with God based on what he eats. Face it, the special "insights" possessed by the SDA church are nothing more than a collection of distractions -- diet, grooming, dress... Belva

Belvalew, Yes, You are so correct. It's interesting to read the passage in Lev. about the unclean and clean meats. Only a few texts later are the rules about not mixing fabrics and some other interesting rules. There is even one obscure text in there somewhere about only wearing garments with blue fringe. I have been so bold ocassionally to get out my Bible and show those texts to SDA's and then tell them if the unclean/clean rules about eating meat applies to them they should then also follow the other rules in that same rules section of Lev. As usual, rather than giving me a real answer about why the meats rules are still in effect and the other rules are not I just get told, "I don't see how come you don't see it, Susan. It is so plain." I have to tell them, "No, it isn't plain. Show me". They can't do it and I either get told how dumb I am for not seeing it or they get flustered and leave. I also like to tell them that then the SDA women should be out in their backyards during their menstruation in a menstruration hut and should be untouchable because they are considered unclean. I even have told them that after having their little SDA babies they should be in their birthing huts with their new little one for 40 days. I haven't gotten any SDA's yet to see the loonyness of their pick 'n' choose text system when making up their doctrine. |

Hmmm--I haven't heard of the group you mention, Susan, but if they're real and are really praying to Ellen the way your friend described, that certainly reminds me of the way the Catholics view Mary. Now how could any people of Adventist extraction resemble--uh--Catholics?! Colleen |

So, Colleen, can these folks now be told to do 10 Hail Ellens? Is that next? |
