I just got finished reading Doug Botchlers blurb about the movie, The Passion of the Christ. You can read it yourself on his Annoying Fiction website. In his article he urges his readers to read about the last hours of Jesus's lfe from the Bible "and other inspired writers". And, then ge goes on to try to get people to read a book by e.g.w. called, Passion of the Ages. Until recently egw ad never written a book called, Passion of the Ages and I don't see how she could have written it now as she's been dead nearly a hundred years! But, too I think a new Johnny Cash album recently was released and he's no longer around anymore, either. I heard there's been another Elvis sighting recently, too. |

Does anyone remember a toy called "Rockem Sockem Robots?" If we could combine that with bobble heads... You know, bobble heads that pop up when hit by another bobble head. We could have an entire line of them. An SDA pioneer series rockem sockem bobble heads. Kids could trade them. You can mix and match, Joseph Smith slugging it out with James White while Ellen's in trance. Her head could pop up when she gets a vision... |

Another great game that could be converted is Hungry, Hungry Hippo. Just replace the hippo heads with bobbleheads of EGW (SDA), Herbert Armstrong (Worldwide Church of God), Joseph Smith (Mormon) and Charles Russell (Jehovah Witness) and pretend the marbles are tithes and see which one can gobble up the biggest money collection! |

How about Old Maid with EGW as the loosing card? It would be a very inexpensive game, just cut out a picture of egw from any Review and paste it over the old maid. |

And in this corner is EGW with no jewelry or frills. In the other corner is MEBaker. Ok, Ladies no hitting below the waist. Come out fighting!!! I really like the one about who can gobble up the most marbles(money). Susan, that is very imaginative with Old Maid. Diana |

Hi friends! Not to be a spoilsport, but I find this discussion has turned hurtful. I like a good laugh as well as the next person, but these seem to be going beyond the bounds of decency. I'm not trying to offend any of you, just feeling that someone should speak up. Mary |

I, too didn't mean to offend anyone. However, at the same time EGW has done a lot more harm to her devotees than mere offending. Go to www.oldlutheran.com and you can order Martin and Katy Luther bobbleheads. It's a website put out by Lutherans that has fun with their own quirks. Lutheran jokes, a Passing the Peace sanitiezer kit, all sorts of silly and fun things. My favorite are the t-shirts with the quote by M.L. that says, "sin boldly" and then under that in smaller letters says something like, "and KNOW you are saved". Of course, when M.L. made this comment he wasn't meaning to do real bad things. In the context that the above quote was made he is meaning that even though we are sinners we have the assurance of salvation. I like the shirts. |

I always enjoyed the story of Elijah taunting the priests of Baal while waiting for them to try and get their gods to act and consume their sacrifice. He was constantly asking if their gods were sleeping or on vacation. We know we don't have to take false prophets seriously. |

Susan, I agree that EGW has done more harm to her devotees than just offending them. I have thrown away all her books and if I had a fireplace where I could have burned them I would have done that. I want to destroy anything connected to EGW that I have. And Pw, I too enjoy the story of Elijah taunting the priests of Baal. I can imagine how frustrated they were and then the joy and assurance Elijah had that God would honor his request. God bless. Diana |

On the original topic, B's SDA pastor father was in town this past week for a few minutes and B wanted to take our son to see his grandfather. Of course, he mentioned this book being sold by wal-mart. His take on the story is that the book seller for wal-mart happened to read the passion of ages and contacted SDAs because he "had to get this book for Wal-Mart". He makes it sound like Wal-Mart pursued them in getting a hold of the book. He said there were thousands on order. He was very excited at the prospect. B acted like he had never heard of the book, but I think he does that a lot when it's the topic of EGW and I'm around. He keeps trying to tell me she's not that big of a deal in the church, but listening to his father go on and on about this book being in Wal-Mart... you wouldn't get the idea she is a has-been of the religion. Thought it was interesting to get a snip-it of their view. He always seems to promote what great things adventism is doing for the world. |

I heard on a news program that when Hillary Clinton's book came out most of the purchases of that book were by her cronies. They were actually buying them up by the tens of thousands. My guess is with this EGW book at Wal-Mart it will be the same thing. The local SDA churches will encourage their members to buy them and pass them around in the commnity. Then if an uspecting person will say to the SDA, "My oh my, where did you puchase such a book? I would like more of them." The ever faithful SDA will not have to say "At the SDA bookstore" but can honestly say, "Oh isn't it wonderful! I found it on the shelf at the local Wal-Mart". Just my thoughts on this. |

Thanks Pheeki, Another person here is sending one of the revised DOA with the comment by Mel Gibson on the back. I will write a letter to him with the website urls about EGW and her plagiarizing. I will let every one know what happens. I forget where on here some one said we out to hold the SDAs accountable for what they do that is deceptive and sneaky and you add your word for it. So Pray for me as I write this letter and send it with the book. When I was an SDA I never did anything like this. I did not know how deceptive and sneaky the SDAs were/are. When the congregations heard about people causing discomfort for the church we were told all kinds of stories that made that person look bad. So again I ask for prayers as I write this letter and send this book. God gets more awesome every day. Diana |

I'm sorry--I just had to laugh as I glanced at Diana's post above. The abbreviation DOA (Desire of Ages) just struck such a humorous chord because that is also a medical abbreviation for a person who is "dead on arrival". Somehow it seems appropriate for a book that was largely plagiarized!! Colleen |

Have you others noticed how nearly all of us on this disussion board have a really tacky, wry sense of humor? Frankly, I really like it when we on here get side-tracked with our puns and silly comments. So much of this is such havey-duty topics that the occassional lightness is good for the soul. Now to share with you the funniest thing I ever experienced in a SDA service. I was probably around 17 years old, maybe a few years older but I'm sure no younger. Me and my mom were sitting through an incredibly boring sermon at the Fresno Central SDA church one Saturday morning. To alleviate my boredom I picked up the hymmanl and just started looking through it. Stopping on this page or that page to read the words to the songs and contimplate them, etc. Finily I got to the inside of the backcover. There before me was the funniest cartoon someone had drawn with a pensil that I've ever to this day seen. It s a classic. Maybe one of you reading this can reproduce it from my written description. It was a jungle scene. There was trees and brush all around. There was a fire with a big stew pot suspended above the fire. The stew pot was suspended from a stick and the handle of the pot was hanging the pot from the stick. Then the stick was held up at both ends by more wood. In the stew pot was a white man. On his shirt it was written, "SDA Missionary". There was two native men cooking the missionary. They had bones in their hair and were holding speers. It was very funny. They were wearing loin cloths. And then the caption above one native said,"Oh too bad have missionary for dinner. Me like'um vegeburger mo betta". I just busted up laughing so hard right in this solomm church service. My mom grabbed the hymmal from me and looked at what was so funny. Then she burst out laughing real loud. We walked out of the church. The next week I insisted Daddy had to come to church so I could show him the funny cartoon in the hummal. Me and my mom went and looked in the backs of every hummal in that building and it was gone! If whoever did that cartoon is reading this I want to thank you for givng me the best experience I've ever had in a sda service. |

That was cool. I can just see it. To bad the members found it. I agree, we all have a wry sense of humor and we do need to alleviate some of the heaviness we experience. If we cannot laugh at ourselves, something is wrong with us. Diana |

Yesterday at my moms I picked up the Aug. 19th issue of the Review and it has an article in it about The Passion of Love going out to Wal-Mart. I think the Review is available on-line. Anyway, the article said Wal-Mart has ordered 50,000 of the books. 40,000 in English and 9,000 in Spanish. If they sell good then Wal-Mart will order them also in Frence and in Arabec. Also, if they sell good Wal-Mart will order more of EGW's books. My guess is it will be like Hilary Clinton's book in which she had her own cronies buy up her books and then give them away so it would appear that she had these awsome huge book sale results, with the ever faithful SDA's buying them up at Wal-Mart and passing them out. It just seems decietful to me in that EGW never did author a book called, The Passion of Love and also because with th reference to Mr. Gibson's movie on the backcover it makes it appear as if Mr. Gibson is endorsig this book. While I'm on this topic I will tell you that last night I went to Samuelle Bacchiocchi's website and read hs take on the movie. I think he calls the movie, The Slaughter of Christ and he goes on and on about how the crusifiction wasn't early as bad as the movie depicts it. Well, yes it was. I can read in Isiah where it says he will be beyond human recognition. The movie never got Jesus to that point. Also, S.B. says it is in the SDA encyclepedia that it is considered wrong by SDA's to have any pictures of dieity, to view pictures of Jesus, God, etc. If this is so then why do they print pictures of Jesus in their Bible Story books for the children, and pictures of Jesus in their other books and sell pictures of Jesus at their ABC's? I am wondering how accurate S.B. is. I would like for some you reading this to go on his website and comment about this on here. Frankly, I think S.B. is nuts but that is totally a personal opinion of mine. |

I tried to find the book at the local Wal-Marts but I haven't seen it. There are a couple of other Passion books but they were from other authors. Maybe we should put little cards in each book saying "for more info about this author go to egwhite.org" Jeannette |

Jeannette, I thought your idea was excellent and so made up some little cards this morning on pretty paper that says on one side: For more information on this author visit www.ellenwhite.org And on the other side I printed Colossians 2:16-18 I was considering a better text on the grace of God in Jesus, but then it hit me that people who pick up the book who know nothing about SDA's if they visit the site, will find more information than they bargained for, but in this area chances are that most people who pick up the book would at least know about SDA's, and Colossians is really an attention getter. |
