Hi All, Forgive me if I'm asking an elementary question...There are so many active threads on this bulletin board, and I'm interested in them all, but I can't tell if there's a way to see if there are new posts under threads. I know on some boards that I go to, the topic that gets the latest post rises to the top. In other boards, there's a number or something that indicates what's unread. Is there any such device on here? I also want to mention thanks to those who started and maintain this board. Do ya'll need/take donations? Grace |

Grace, It confused me for awhile too. If you go to the search at the top right of the screen when your on the boards page, then you can search by date. And just enter the days since you've last searched, or hours, etc. Hope that helps! |

OK - This will be the most elementary question...How do I start a new discussion? I thought it was the "start new thread" (top left) but discovered that is just another "area" from the topic at hand. This is the first and only forum I have ever been on. I really am a computer moron. HELP, please! |

I'm not very computer literate either! I never tried using the "search" section the way Esther mentioned. That may be better than the way I've always done it! The way I find new posts is by scrolling down to the bottom and hitting "last day"... or "last week" if it's been more than a day. (I usually catch-up at least once a week. If longer, the "search" by date would be a better method.) All the recent posts come up on one page. My computer highlights what I havn't read yet and I just go on down thru the posts. I havn't started a "new" discussion topic for a long time, it may be different on this new format. We used to have a different format in the "olden days" :-) The "experts" and ones to thank are Colleen & Richard Tinker! grace always, cindy |

Oh yes! I forgot Grace's question on who to thank...Colleen and Richard...I know Colleen may be unhappy with me...please do forgive me Colleen...BUT...I have to put a plug in..I know Colleen and Richard personally - Colleen and I knew each other way back when...But, that is ancient history! C & R have made this forum their life. What started as a local ministry has been blessed by God to what it is today. Colleen recently told me that when the site was first started that a good day would have maybe 18 posts! What do we do an hour now days?! I know that they both would give God all the credit but I must point out that it has been through following God's leading that this forum is successfully meeting so many of our needs and encouraging us in our growth in Him. For that I do give all the credit to C & R for listening and following! PRAISE GOD! NOW...I believe we all have the opportunity to listen, also. I have never been a fund raiser or called for tithes or offering (I never listened until the offertory -- the best part of offering - most times!), but I know I would like to encourage us all to ask God if there is anything we can do to help C & R with this ministry. Maybe all some can do is to continue to share the insight that the Holy Spirit has given and continue to pray daily for the forum -- that is GREAT! Maybe others can help financially...I think that is totally between God and all of us individually. Only He knows where our needs are and how He will meet those needs. Let's all just pray and see where He leads! As far as sending in any donations...I think we will have to rely on Colleen to share that info. I do know that she is also the new editor of "Proclamation!", a publication from Life Assurance Ministries, Inc. If any of you have not recieved this publication, I would highly recommend that you send your name and address in. I think you can just contact C & R through FormerAdventist.com. Hopefully Colleen will comment on my comments later today...hopefully, she will still be my friend after reading this post!

Dd, Here's what it says in the help/instructions section for creating a new discussion: "Where available, you may click on a "Create New Conversation" button to start a new discussion. This will add a subtopic with the subject you specify and start a conversation with the initial message that you specify. After filling in the subject line, post a message as described above." I haven't found a button to create a new conversation so I'm just guessing that either the forum software doesn't currently have that feature or our gracious administrator/s have chosen to not make that feature available to us. Maybe Colleen or Richard can clarify. Doug |

Colleen and Richard, Thank you, Muchas Gracia, Merci Beaucoup. I cannot say it enough ways to express the gratitude in my heart for this forum. God has used the two of you mightily to help all of us who are having heart ache as we leave the church in which we grew up or got mixed up with as an adult, or got mixed up with an SDA in some way. The both of you are a God Send. God is AWESOME. Diana |

If you go to the topics window, then go to discussions, at the bottom of that screen in the blue line there is a "start new thread" button. "Create new conversation" must be old terminology.... there was an upgrade a while back and maybe that is one of the things that changed??? Anyway, click on it and you should be good to go. Hope that helps. |

I guess I'm a little confused. Dd, are you wanting to create a new topic, such as "Discussion" and "Prayer", or, are you wanting to start new a thread under the "Discussion" topic? Doug |

Melissa and Doug, Your terminology is WAY over my head! Isn't that sad? What I can't figure out is how to have the new post show up under "Discussions" -- such as this one -- "Best way to read the board" I can start a new thread under "Best way to read the board" (that would have a new title but would not show up on the "Discussions" but would only show up when you get to "Best way to read the board") but how did Grace get to an "empty" discussion to start "Best way to read the board". Am I making an sense? I have tried what you both suggested but have yet to see a "Create New Conversation" button anywhere. It's so hard being a child of the '70's! |

Dd, I see what you are saying now. Melissa's help should get you there. When you first enter the "Discussion" section, scroll down to the bottom and you will see a blue line there that reads "start new thread". Click on that and you will then get a chance to name your thread what ever you want in the "Subject" box, like, "Best way to read the board". Then enter and post what ever message you want to post. This new thread you just created will show up under the "Discussion" section or topic. Hope this gets you there. Doug |

Thanks all for the input. I'll try your suggestions next. And certainly would love to donate to FAF. Colleen and Richard, have you considered a donate to Paypal model? I certainly would love to support when I can. Grace |

Thanks for your kind comments, Dd. Tax-deductible donations for Proclamation, etc. can be sent to LAM, Inc. via this internet address: http://www.ratzlaf.com/Qstore/Qstore.cgi?CMD=009&DEPT=1005234402&BACK=A0001A1 I know it's long, but if you copy the whole thing and paste it into your browser, it will take you to the page for on-line donations.
