Russ--welcome to the forum! Have you thought of starting a Former Adventist Fellowship group in England? We'd be happy to talk with you and support you. Let us know if you feel God might be calling you to such a thing. Colleen |

What do you know or think of the Church of God Seventh Day? |

Dear Susan: I have been out of the SDA church for 8 years and yes, Christians do believe that SDAs are Christian. When I have only a short amount of time, I inform them of the prophet problem. Many of them don't know this. This information ALONE should set off red flags. Also, I point out their view on salvation in all its erroneous forms. However, many Christians, Hank Hanegraff being one, look at the SDA doctrines in written form and see that IN PRINT they hold to the essential doctrines of the gospel and the diety, death and resurection of Christ. I point out, however, that the gospel is NOT consistently and regularly taught in most SDA churches, that most SDAs don't know the gospel and don't, of course, know if they are saved. This is not a popular message. I have been accused by a Christian of "having an ax to grind" when in fact I am telling the truth. This feels like I am being victimized again--first, as a spiritual abuse victim by the SDA church and now, by Christians who don't believe my testimony! The video "Ellen White: The Spirit behind the Church" is excellent. (Available from Dale Ratzlaff and Mark Martin.) I have shared it with many Christians and they have been blown away!! I too live in a major SDA "capital" so the Christians think quite favorably of the SDAs. However, they will admit that there is a "wall" between them or that something "just doesn't seem right." I am in the process of writing a book about "Adventists in Transition" about our stories intended to be read by Christians. If you would be interested in completing a questionaire about your experience, please email me at mail{gebochinnock@yahoo.com} and I will email you the questionaire. |

Geneva, I bought 10 copies of the video "Ellen White: The Spirit behind the Church" through Mark Martin's web. I saved $7.00 each that way. I have all of Ellen White's writings on CD. I copied every single quote from the video with its entire paragraph so as not to be accused of taking things out of context & so I could honestly say I looked up & verified every single quote in the video. Plus I added quotes to back up the places where they paraphrase EGW without giving quotes. The transcript came to 20 pages typed. I'm endeavoring to give a video and a transcript to every interested Christian who thinks SDA is Christian. When our church starts up a video library, I'm going to put one there as well. Do I have an ax to grind? I prefer to think of it as being on a crusade. That's something Adventists can identify with. Lynn |

Again, I ask if anyone knows about the Church of God Seventh Day and is it the same as SDA? |

Great for you Lynn! Sometimes I feel like the lone crusader. Other Christians think I'm crazy to inform folks, about the cultic teachings of adventism. They just tell me I'm being legalistic.(I do try to convey my opinions in the most loving way possible) But I won't give up. Jesus' gospel is the ONLY true gospel. I feel so strongly that adventism contradicts this and other biblical truths, therefore, I can't sit silently by. Thanks Geneva and Lynn for your comments. Linda, sorry I don't have any info. on the Church of God 7th day. Perhaps someone else does. God bless! |

Linda, I can't say that I know much about the Church of God Seventh Day, but I can say a few things. A number of years ago there was a COG 7th Day couple which attended my SDA church regularly since they did not have an English speaking church of their denomination in the university town where I live. It was a pleasure to know and fellowship with them. Many of their beliefs are similiar to SDA, such as the Sabbath and state of the dead, but they do not believe in Ellen White. Actually the history of COG 7th Day goes back to the Millerite movement, like SDA, but there was a split because some pastors rejected Ellen White. If I remember right, this was the split where the entire Iowa conference left, but I am not sure. At least the couple I knew were grace oriented, not legalists, but I don't know about the denomination beyond that. I hope this helps. -Darrell |
