Hi Max, You quoted EWG: "To think of dead flesh rotting in the stomach is revolting." So that is where mom got her big guns about "rotting flesh!" I was out of SDAism 3 years before I could let a peice of "rotting flesh" pass between my lips! That concept was deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeply ingrained in me! The phrase, "dead animal" was really pounded in my head too! There are still many who are released from the bondage of SDAism, yet can't eat meat because of the "rotting flesh" syndrome! Next veggie person I see, I'll tell them they (he) suffers from RF syndrome! He he he he!;-) Maryann |

Maryann, Ever consider the possibility that maybe Mom was denying something that was within herself and projecting ("sticking") it onto you? That's a very common human failing, you know. Max |

EGW: PLANTS NOT DEAD WHEN EATEN, BUT ANIMALS ARE "That which is dead should ever be regarded as unfit for food. We shun the dead bodies of animals, because they are repulsive to us, while at the same time we prepare their flesh for our tables. There is no good reason for our doing this. We should learn that fruits, grains, and vegetables can be so skillfully and tastefully prepared that they will be chosen before any preparation of meat." --Ellen G. EGW EATS LIVE FISH, NOT DEAD "Two years ago I came to the conclusion that there was danger in using the flesh of dead animals, and since then I have not used meat at all. It is never placed on my table. I use fish when I can get it." --Ellen G.White, Manuscript Releases Volume Fourteen, page 330, paragraph 2. Hi Max again:-) Yeh, the projecting job was well done on me! Come to think of it, that is what gives so many cults their power. If they can't project or stick onto the unsuspecting, where would they get their followings? Then, I guess, fear is the biggest thing being "stuck" to the unsuspecting making it nearly impossible for them to be "suspecting." Fear keeps one from doing many things. Just look at how fear kept me from seeing Jim before he died! Hmmmm, I guess I had a good "project" stuck onto me! Maryann |

Maryann, The cultic mentality does seem to be driven by unconscious fear. In the case of our SDA friends, not fear that Jesus won't come, but fear that he WILL come and find them unready. I mean, what good is all that avoidance of beefsteak and red wine and shunning of swimming on Sabbath if you're still not ready when he gets here and zaps you anyway with the laser "brightness of his coming"? Better far that he stays away. But then there's all that angst about what happens after you die. Where's my ticket to heaven? The flood is coming and SDA not in ark of safety! The summer is past and the harvest is in the barn and SDA not saved! Run to the rock! SDA: "Rock, won't you hide me?" Rock: "Afraid not, O SDA sinnerman! You have to stand before the All-Consuming-Fire, aka God, WITHOUT a Mediator! Sorry about that." And the mind that is not "bewitched" (Galatians 3:1) can only inquire, Where's the good news in so hideous a nightmare? Max of the Cross |
