Dear Adventist Friend: ELLEN G. WHITE CONTRADICTS HERSELF IN THE MOST FUNDAMENTAL TEACHINGS OF CHRISTIANITY In his short book, ìSeventh-day Adventism and the Writings of Ellen G. White,î* J. Mark Martin documents some contradictions of the woman who called herself "the messenger of the Lord" in the most fundamental and critical areas of our faith. Here is a sampling: Question One: Does God love children when they do wrong? EGW answers Yes: God loves children that do wrong. Source: ìSigns of the Times,î Feb. 15, 1892. EGW answers No: God will not love children who do wrong. Source: ìAn Appeal to Youth,î Battle Creek Michigan Steam Press, 1864, pp. 42,62. Question Two: Was the door of salvation forever shut? EGW answers Yes: ìGod gave me light....î In Exeter, Maine, in February, 1845, ìin meeting with Israel Dammon, James [White], and many othersî she revealed to them this ìlight.î ìMost of them received the vision, and were settled upon the shut door.î Source: Letter B-3, 1847: Letter to Joseph Bates, July 13, 1847, White Estate. EGW again answers Yes: ìThe time for [sinners] salvation is past.î Source: Present Truth: pp. 21-22, August, 1849. EGW answers No: ìI never had a vision that no more sinners would be converted.î Source: Selected Messages, vol. 1, p. 74. Question Three: How old is the plan of salvation? EGW says it began with Adamís fall: ìWhile Moses was shut in the mount with God, the plan of salvation, dating from the fall of Adam, was revealed to him...î Source: Selected Messages, Book 1, pp. 231-232. EGW says it pre-existed Adam's fall: ìThe words, ëMine hour is not yet come,í point to the fact that every act of Christís life on earth was in fulfillment of the plan that had existed from the days of eternity.î Source: The Desire of Ages, p. 147. Question Four: Was the atonement (sacrifice or redemption) between God and humans fully accomplished at the cross? EGW agrees that it is ìaccomplishedî: ìTo the angels and the unfallen worlds the cry [on the cross], ëIt is finished,í had a deep significance. It was for them as well as for us that the great work of redemption had been accomplished. They with us share the fruits of Christís victory.î Source: Desire of Ages, p. 758. EGW again agrees that it as been ìfulfilledî and is now ìfull and completeî: ìThe sacrifice in behalf of man was full and complete [before Pentecost]. The condition of the atonement had been fulfilled [at the cross].î Source: Acts of the Apostles, p. 29. EGW says, No, itís still going on: ìNow while our great High Priest is making the final atonement for us, we should seek to become perfect in Christ.î Source: The Great Controversy, p. 623.
