I am involved in a discussion on another forum about the actual 1888 message of Jones and Waggoner. Supposedly, according to SDA mythology, the church rejected the message as a whole in 1888 (and yet somehow remained God's only true remnant :0 ) which Ellen called "the third angel's message in verity" (Which I also think was a bunch of poppycock.) (I suppose I have given away my feelings on the matter already. I was browsing for something on Jones and Waggoner and found this website: http://gospel-herald.com/index.htm It sounds to me like the "Gospel message" of 1888 is nothing more than the Catholic teaching of salvation which is of faith and works. No new Gospel message here, just old heresy. Perhaps I am reading it wrong. Anyone care to join this study with me? Thanks in advance. God bless you all! Grace and peace, Patti |

Patti, you can read what I think about it being heresy on the other thread "out of africa". I don't believe that at all. There is a letter from ellen that I posted the address to that might help also. I am very interested in this study and would be interested to see what else you come up with. Where is your other forum? Wendy |

Wendy, I just waded through the EGW letter you posted, www.ellenwhite.org/1888/1888-9.htm I read it last night and then again this morning to make sure I was reading it right. Many good things...yet some scary implications, also! Going back to post at "Out of Africa" thread... Grace always, Cindy |

Patti, what do you think? Have you read it? To me it is rather frightening. I"m going back to the "Out of Africa' thread to post comments... Again, I agree on your observation of the '1888 MIXED MESSAGE' of absolute grace of Christ's Finished Work. Subtly, but definitely, this Objective Righteousness is merged with the Subjective Response of the believer to come up with a 'final generation' theme of vindicating God's justice.
