Thanks Colleen, Belva, and Randy for your encouraging words! And, Randy, since I know you and I are both trumpet players, now Marti may be able to appreciate the notes that I crack--LOL Stan |

Thanks again for all your kind words of support for Marti. Now, I can report even better news. On the second day, more adjustments were made, and she was given a hearing test which she passed 100%! The audiologist was amazed and excited. She will have all the tones of the hearing spectrum that the implant is capable of giving. Tonight we had dinner together, and the TV sound was on mute, as we were watching the UCLA Bruins game. But she turned her hearing aid off on the right ear, and had just the implant on, and previously, with this situation, she was totally deaf. But tonight, with me talking slowly, and in a low tone of voice, we were able to carry on a conversation. This is not only a modern miracle of medical science, it is a great work of grace that God has done, both in enabling the kind surgeon to do a perfect job in putting the electrodes in place, but God also sovereignly working in Marti's life. Since faith cometh by hearing, I believe God will enable her to hear the Word more clearly now. Marti asked me to specifically thank all those who prayed for her as a result of posting our request on this web site, but also all the faithful prayers of our weekly FAF Bible study group. I will plagiarize Diana--God is AWESOME! Stan |

I wish to say thank you for those who were praying for the meeting Friday night at my church. Opportunities opened that will allow a continuation of study at the church in the near future. I hadn't really expected that the study would be continued at the church itself. Some of us will probably continue study in a smaller group as well where there will be a chance for more intimancy and openness of sharing. Yesterday while in a separate study with Cherry at a friends house I was signed on to Yahoo and communicating with someone from this list who revealed how she had been praying for us. I shared in real time those prayers. Richard rtruitt@mac.com

She was "deeply" moved at what you said. You have a wonderfull sister who loves her Lord in a deep and passionate way! ! ! In His hands, richard rtruitt@mac.com.

Chris, If it had not been posted in a public forum I would have said nothing. Knowing her I could see that there were tears in her eyes. It reminded me that I need to express my feelings to those close to me that I love. I know it has ment a great deal to her getting to know you and your family. After I read it to her she shared with the small group some of her feelings. May God bless you and your family. Richard rtruitt@mac.com

Another great answer to prayer for my wife Marti and me. Before she got her cochlear implant, she could never hear well enough to get anything out of going to church. She also never really had the desire to go to church. I had been praying that God would awaken a new interest for her, as she now can hear as a result of the recent operation. I also had been praying for God to lead us to a new church, as I felt led to move on after being tremendously blessed in the past at the mega-church we were attending. But on her own initiative she asked if we could go to church today. I had been attending various ones in the area including the one we went to today. I said, yes, there is a Bible teaching Presbyterian church that is quite close to where we live, and they don't have the loud drums and guitars that would cause distortion to her cochlear implant--just a grand piano with traditional hymns of the Presbyterian faith. I was also hesitant to choose this church, because I thought it would be too heavy theologically for her, as she is not well versed in scripture. But we were pleasantly surprised. We loved the old-fashioned style of music played on the grand piano. There was something calm and worshipful about it--except the only problem is she complained because my singing hurt her ears! Then pastor Ron Gleason (www.rongleason.org ) of Grace Presbyterian Church (a PCA church--Thanks JWD for the suggestion) taught the passage from scripture Romans 8:1-4 which emphasizes there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus. It was pure meat of the word expository preaching--not just line by line, but word for word. He taught in a way that was awe-inspiring. At first Marti didn't seem particularly thrilled to be there. But as Pastor Gleason taught in a clear and concise way, and in a tone of voice that Marti could hear easily, an amazing thing happened. For the first time in a long time, she was actually listening intently with great interest. I wanted to praise God right on the spot. I never saw this look on her face, and being interested in Bible teaching like she was today. And she could hear every word! We met the pastor afterwards, and he had remembered me from previous, but he met Marti for the first time. Most of the time in the past when we have tried new churches, she never commented or wanted to go back. But, amazing, she actually wanted to talk about this sermon, as it emphasized so much God's sovereignty in His dealings with us. The pastor repeated over and over again "There is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus". He was emphatic that this passage of scripture ends the debate about any chance of one who is truly saved losing their salvation. The previous church we had attended is somewhat vague, and equivocal, as the pastor would always say "If we abide in Christ, we will stay saved". No, that is not the way it works. Pastor Gleason said there is a trend in some Reformed circles to bring works in the back door, and making obedience a condition to stay saved, rather than as evidence that we are saved. A clear teaching of monergistic regeneration as well as sanctification was taught. This was all clear Reformation Bible-based preaching. It is true, that I will have to live with the fact that Sunday Sabbatarianism is taught, but it DOES NOT have the same legalistic implications that we had in Adventism. But, again, there is no perfect church, but this one fits with my Reformation emphasis--even the ESV is used. But, anyway, I praise God for answering our prayers for Marti's hearing, and now, since faith cometh by hearing, I continue to pray for spiritual growth and healing as well. Soli Deo Gloria (To God alone be the glory), Stan |

Stan - Our prayers are answered so often. This really should be the longest thread on the forum - Answered Prayers... The father of my husband was saved about a year ago, water baptized, and he is 80 years old. Oftentimes I don't praise God enough - He really is great!
