Matthew 5:13 tells us Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. This last weekend I had a momentary lapse of peace on account of, I was looking at who I was in the world, rather than who I am in Christ. Nothing particularly bad happened, but I sure did feel trodden under foot of men. It felt awful for maybe an hour or so, but I can remember times when it would take days to have my savor restored because I was trying to uplift who I was in the world, forgetting all I needed to do was remember who I am in Christ. Now most of the times my savor is restored in Christ in minutes, but every once in a while it gets away from me. To me this verse deals with this core issue, and its really that simple. I have heard it preached that we as Christians are the Salt of the Earth because of all the wonderful good works Christians do, but I think that is putting the cart before the horse. Almost like saying our works are our savor. By realizing who we are in Christ, we realize we have been in the Kingdom of God all along, and that all the things we worry about receiving and achieving are accomplished through Christ. I,m not so much talking about material things, which God does promise to provide. I'm talking about the things that have us appear as the Salt of the Earth. The fruits of the Spirit which transpire because we have a Savior and we know it. Through our love we do provide timely acts of charity to people. Both believers, and non believers alike, but more so we provide hope. You see a believer weathers as many storms and calamities as the non believer, sometimes even more ( just ask Paul ) it's just that the believer has the privilege of letting Christ take the rudder by realizing who we are in Christ, and watch the hand of God work out things before us, and in our hearts. God Bless, Chris |

Cristo, I have a patch on my motorcycle jacket that reads, "I'm not totally useless, I can be used as a bad example" Even after four decades of prayer and study in Gods word I sometimes wonder if I will be received into Christs heaven or if I'm just not good enough. This is in spite of knowing the scriptures. Sometimes I'm lost for days in a maze of fog and I have to go back, read the scripture and see who I am in Christ. I know I'm not the Christian I should be, or probably not the Christian I could be and the question confronts me head on,"Am I just fooling myself? Am I just tainted goods and only fit to be trodden under the feet of people more better than I?" I know exactly what you mean and your post meant something to me, it reminds me to let go and let God. Thank you. River |

I think that many of the things that formers go through that they attribute to their past is common with all of us. River |
