A man was tossed onto a deserted island by ship wreck and he began to gather materials to survive from nature around him. Time passed in the struggle to survive the elements and find food. One day it dawned on him to wonder what day of the week it was, but for the life of him he could not decide, Wednesday perhaps? Or was it Sunday? Since he had no reference to days accept the rising and setting of the sun, he had no way to tell what day to worship on and he was very religious so he prayed, “Lord, what day do I worship on?” The Holy Spirit said in his heart in that still small voice, “I have given you these days.” Recently Pastor Mark Martin did a talk and the title of the talk was, “Why do we worship on Sunday?” And in my own simple way I answered the question, ‘because Sunday falls on Sunday’. I think the correct answer is, “I have given you these days.” When we enter into Gods Sabbath of rest, he has given us these days. We have entered into a perpetual rest in Christ Jesus forever more. Being an avid biker and the older I get I realize that I am speeding toward home and he has given me these days. There are those days out on the bike, riding free down a twisting black top with the wind in my face and there is just me and the bike, I lean steeply into a turn and I am one with the bike, I come out of the turn and accelerate, the wind and the roar of the bike as it thumps out the beat of freedom. Freedom, sweet freedom. He has given me these days. Whether it is Monday or Sunday make no difference, every fiber of my being shouts in joy of sweet freedom. One of the salutes bikers say to one another is , “Ride safe, Ride free” I am no longer bound by one day over another. He has given me these days. River |

I thought as an Adventist that "Sunday-Keepers" went to church on Sunday because they were trying to keep the day holy (even though, of course, they couldn't, because God had never made the day holy in the first place). Then I married a non-Adventist and found out that most people who go to church on Sunday don't actually believe that there is anything holy about the day at all. Jesus is their rest. So there is this false dichotomy set up in the minds of Adventists--"Sabbath Keepers vs. Sunday Keepers," and they constantly challenge non-Adventist Christians to prove that the Sabbath was changed to Sunday. And that is the wrong question. Of course, you all know all this... |
