Something I came up this evening, contemplating Christmas. An excerpt from some writing by C.S. Lewis on the 2nd Advent..... “God will invade. But I wonder whether people who ask God to interfere openly and directly in our world quite realize what it will be like when He does. When that happens, it is the end of the world. When the author walks on to the stage the play is over. God is going to invade, all right: but what is the good of saying you are on His side then, when you see the whole natural universe melting away like a dream and something else - something it never entered your head to conceive - comes crashing in; something so beautiful to some of us and so terrible to others that none of us will have any choice left? For this time it will be God without disguise; something so overwhelming that it will strike either irresistible love or irresistible horror into every creature. It will be too late then to choose your side. There is no use saying you choose to lie down when it has become impossible to stand up. That will not be the time for choosing; it will be the time when we discover which side we really have chosen, whether we realized it before or not. Now, today, this moment, is our chance to choose the right side. God is holding back to give us that chance. It will not last for ever. We must take it or leave it.” ~ C.S. I remember, as a kid, scanning the sky anxiously for a cloud the size of a man's hand (not Biblical, I know) and being terrified, wondering if I was "ready for Jesus to come". Looking back, I think it was child abuse for ostensibly grown-up people to teach children that if they die with one unforgiven sin they will perish. How wonderful now to think of His coming! I would welcome, treasure, cherish it at any moment! Thank you, Jesus. |

Teaching children that if they die with one unforgiven sin they will perish really is child abuse. He said to His disciples "Your names are written in Heaven." And He said that to them before they all scattered and ran after He was arrested. How can Jesus offer such assurance? The only thing I can think of is that He is very confident in His ability to save us. |

You are completely right, Goose. Re-read John 5:24-29. He IS salvation. And teaching children they will die if they have even one unforgiven sin IS child abuse. Colleen |

I just so happened to have reread that portion of John 5 just last evening, Colleen. It contains my most favorite promise of Jesus, vs 24. I noticed your topic inviting contributions for Proclamation Mag and Life Assurance Minorities. I wish I could make a donation but times have been pretty difficult for awhile. I am hoping a legal matter I have filed in CA will very soon resolve favorably. Then I will be able to think about where I might move and what I might do, for occupation. At 56 I am too young to be idle. Until then, I have to remain cautiously optimistic and not give too much thought to the future. |
