I was surprised when I learned that the guidelines that started this discussion were written 21 years ago.

Great point, Chris. "The church" to Adventists means only the SDA church. Christians don't generally understand this fact, and Adventists try to hide behind the general ignorance.

I'm reminded of a phrase I love..."God never lets anyone sin successfully forever..."

If this is what is expected from sabbath keepers i guarantee that there is not one who is not a sabbath breaker.

"Purchase of Goods and Services on the Sabbath"

a. The Sabbath is designed to provide spiritual freedom and joy for every person (Ex 20:8-11). As Christians, we must be supportive of this basic human right granted to each individual by the Creator. As a general rule, the purchasing of goods, eating out in restaurants, and paying for services to be provided by others ought to be avoided because they are out of harmony with the principle and practice of Sabbath keeping.

I remember the 1990 SDA General Conference Session at the Hoosier Dome in Indiana...the restraunts in the area got wise and started issuing gift certificates to SDA's on Friday so they could eat on sabbath. Yes, the restraunts were packed and so was the cafeteria provided at the conference center! This concept of sabbath "eating out" is no more rediculous than a sabbath elevator in downtown Toronto!

Why is it that medical professionals get a pass but not law enforcement or rescue? I know becuase I went down that road. Eventually I said "forget it" and joind the Canadian Army. Family didn't like it becuase of the sabbath thing. Oh well...

Medical professionals have always represented a very large part of the SDA industrial complex and revenue stream.

Actually funny about the eating "passes" sold ahead of time so SDA's dont spend money on Sabbath.... even if the paid money ahead of time,, they were STILL making other people WORK on that day preparing their food that they paid for ahead of time. and those people who were working for the SDA's on Sabbath were earning their wages for working on Sabbath.

Several years ago as I was on my journey of self, and spiritual discovery, I ran across this list on the official GC website.
To this day, I am still amazed, and aghast at the nerve of the organization to dictate to such a degree the actions of its members.
Is it any wonder that there are so many screwed up people within this particular group.
This type of list if nothing else, lays an ongoing guilt trip on its members, as no one can ever live up to the standard as presented in this paper.
There is so much hypocrisy and sheer nonsense in so much of it.
Like most closed groups, it is so often a matter of control. It is the cultic mindset where every action is dictated, and where fear and guilt are the main motivating factors.
It is sad, that even though most SDAs that I associate with, would laugh at much of this, no doubt in the backs of their minds, there remains a guilt of never meeting the standard.
While I love them all dearly, I am soo glad that I am no longer a part of this madness.

I am too Randy! I know I have said this before but I will keep on saying it. I love the people within SDAism but I hate and detest and despise the SDA organization. The only reason that church was brought into existance was to cover up that EGW's visions were not from God and then to keep people deceived. Cover up and deception are the true roots of SDAism.
This was something as a SDA I was never aware of....it was all covered up (LOL!). But thank God for the internet! Now it basically is an impossible task for the SDA church to keep information hidden from the laity of the SDA church. Those who truly want to know the truth can simply go searching for it in the privacy and comfort of their homes.
