Please visit Spectrum and view the blog, "Meeting Ellen White at ASI". It will utterly blow your mind! Also, take note of Ted Wilson's comments. If someone can provide a direct link, that would be great. On a somewhat side note, I watched a documentary last night called "Sons of Peredition". It follows several boys who were either kicked out of, or left, the FLDS ranch where Warren Jeffs was the prophet. It follows them for 2 years. It was so compelling, and to some extent, something we can relate to. Of course, they are so far much farther "out there" than most SDA's, but there are still far too many similarities. I hightly recommend this documentary. Very well done. I look forward to your thoughts on the Spectrum blog. Carol |

It shows up when anyone clicks 'last day' at the bottom of the screen. but I'm sure Richard can move it when he gets a chance. Either way, that does sound like an interesting blog! |

Thanks Mary, I've never used that before, learned something new! I've only been here six years, so I won't be nominated for being the most savvy one on the forum...hehe... Carol |

Yes, "Last Day" or "Last Week" is the best way to not miss new posts, especially posts to older threads. Jeremy |

~HELLO~Carol(Foofighter)~ YES, I for one watched the documentary~ "Sons of Perdition"~Aside from the fact there is a definite sexual component involved in "FLDS" the adventist religion is very similar~ the most distinctive feature for both is the "Prophet"~ who rules with Fear~the same with Mormans who are the parent organization of which "FLDS" is an off shoot~ BTW~ are you following the trial of the "FLDS" currant prophet~Warren Jeffs? ~mj~ |

Hi mj, Yes, I've been following the trial, I've been watching on HLN. They've given it a lot of coverage. I heard today about more tapes and testimony in the sentencing phase. I hope this all finally shines more light on these groups, and something is done, legally. I understand what an awful mess this is, for the members and the authorities. All this depravity in the name of God. How wicked!!! Carol |

~HI~Carol~ Yes I also watch the coverage of the "Jeffs" trial on "HLN"~thank goodness there is a network that is willing to carry it~ of course the commentators are very careful not to link the "FLDS" to the Mormons & the prophet they share in comman, Joseph Smith~who actually began the polygamy component to the faith~ I believe that the Mormans gave up the practice in the early 1900's because the government would not let the church continue to have their tax-exempt status if they did not~(at least this is what I understand to be true) their 'prophet' at this time had a "vision" regarding the matter! When sda's critize Mormons & Jehovah's Witness, to me it is quite disingenuous to say the least~again, I could be wrong about why polygamy was banned~ ~*~mj~*~ |

I read the post. It confirms everything I have believed about Ted Wilson and the direction of the church. ASI is where the power it; Robert Folkenberg was a great supporter of ASI. ASI is where you find Adventists with money, and they decide where they want their money to go. ASI has never been a source of support for "progressive" or liberal Adventism. They always support the core of the church, the church's mission programs, etc. It's interesting that the Great Controversy Project has expanded to distribute over 1,000,000 books--and that ASI and the White Estate are so determined about translating TGC and EGWs books into other languages and making them available. It's no surprise to me they're distributing TGC...it is the book that describes the Adventist worldview. Adventism isn't Adventism without TGC worldview. And again I'm impacted by the timing that only God could have accomplished. We had no idea this great controversy issue of Proclamation would be so well-timed... The church has not changed. I get so tired of people saying it has changed, or that pastors are trying to make new kinds of Adventist churches...what? If a pastor draws his salary from the denomination, it doesn't matter what the window dressing of his church is. It's an Adventist church under the hood... Colleen |

This should link thru http://spectrummagazine.org/blog/2011/08/07/meeting-ellen-white-asi If Adventists distribute over one million of these horrid books they may hasten their own time of trouble... Seriously though, who would want to read one of the give-away editions? The pages fall out, the typset is small, the opening paragraphs are rambling and boring... |

Do you think that the reason they keep trying to re-invent it is that the cognitive dissonance cause's them too? Or that they keep trying to re-invent it because the Christian world at large will not accept it? Or is it a combination of both? Or neither of these things? River |

River, I think it is a bit of both. They long for the joy and fellowship they see in the Christian churches and they keep thinking that if they use the same 'programs' they will get the same results - as if the difference is in advertising, and not in the product. |

Yup. I think Mary's got it right! They don't understand that no matter what the program, the Holy Spirit is not present at a false worship service. That doesn't meant He isn't working on individuals at the false service, but He's not there. Colleen |

oh, i got some great quotes from that article. thanks for posting! This was my favorite: "“This next one is a little sensitive,” he noted. “Avoid inviting non-SDAs as major speakers for church meetings, large convocations, and retreats. ”Understand what I am saying. Do not ask them to make spiritually themed presentations when they don’t know the Great Controversy message. We can learn from others, but we need to invite our church leaders to speak.” This also received a round of applause." Also, the COMMENTS are priceless. |

So true. And yes...just in case there was any question about the centrality of the great controversy, just read Wilson's comments in that article... Colleen |

You noticed the comments too eh? What I suspect is that the Lord may be doing a real shaking in the Adventist church via Proclamation and other means. I doubt he needs to change the church, just the people in it, and I suspect he is changing the people in it by the droves and all this great controversy yelping amounts to nothing more than a little boy whistling in the dark. The day God loses as John Wayne says, "That'll be the day!" Any time a Christian goes up against something the devil puts out, victory is assured, and all we got to do is announce the winner in his (Jesus) name. River |

I have to say, though, that I appreciate Wilson and the ASI crew for finally having the guts to be Adventists. I can deal with folks that stand up and truthfully say 'I'm an SDA, I believe in EGW, I love the book Great Controversy'...I can deal with that. What I have a hard time with are the cafeteria style, sort of believing in EGW...but not really, because we are mainline Evangelicals style of SDA. This type just make me sick! I'm glad to see the SDA church reaffirming it's cultic identity along with it's heterodox theology. It makes things easier in online forums when some whiney progressive SDA starts in with 'we don't believe that' to point them over to the GC and ASI. |

I agree, Loneviking. Ted Wilson is the best thing that's happened in ages to the SDA church. He's being a real Adventist...and Adventism, despite all the pretending, has not changed. The core is still the same old core. Colleen |

I still get AR Intouch emailed to me cuz its my way to stay informed with what is going on in the SDA church. I do that so that I will have an idea of whats going on over there so that when an SDA comes to me I'll have a good sense of what is going on presently in their heads. (I'll be informed to the "present truth" for the moment hahahaha) Sooo.....speaking of Ted Wilson. WOW! I have been reading what he has been speaking on and it just creeps me out! I do agree tho that Wilson is a very good thing for the SDA church. Under Wilson there is no double talk or sugar coating SDAism. He really puts it out there for what it really is. I commend him for that! Hopefully, SDAs who are riding the fence will see without a shadow of a doubt that this is the "real truth" of SDAism. It will definitely push them over the fence...onto one side or the other...but push IT WILL. |
