Good article. Not to change the subject, if you want you can answer in another threat. I have asked this question before but no one has answered it. So maybe you or any one who would like to do it would answer this time. It's important for me. In you article you say, "We are born with an eternal Spirit." I have never seen a Bible passage that says that, or maybe it is there and my SDA veil did not allowed me to see it. Could you or any one else quote where the Bible says that? Thanks so much. | ||

Personally I infer it for the most part. But I have strong reasons why. Adam and Eve were born in God's image, Adventists run around a nice circle to say that means our physical bodies are the image of God that is being referred to. However God is at His core Spirit...and that is how we are in God's image. If this Spirit were in fact breath (as I've noted at UndercoverAdventist) God would've had to remove Adam and Eve's BREATH for disobeying His command about not eating from the tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Obviously that didn't happen...so that means something else died...their Spirit did- what had been alive in them originally a Spiritual oneness with God was cut off. And turned towards evil...pride...want. Me. And since then all humans are born with a piece of God's Spirit, but it's been dead and aligned to Sin. And only by being Born again can it be put back into proper alignment with our God and Savior Jesus Christ. Now there might even be verses that state this implicitly but it is so grandly implied that I pretty much take it for granted. Hope this helps. | ||

Me too Ross, accept I don't think any of Adam and Eves spirit in them died as in the word dead, but in the use of that word 'died' means to say that as unsaved people, the spirit is unable to communicate with God as it had before. Of course you said that here...originally a Spiritual oneness with God was cut off... I don't think people are borned with just a piece of God's spirit in them, but a full spirit that cannot communicate with God unless it has been regenerated (again wording?) I get this because of the scripture, God is Spirit and they that worship him MUST worship in spirit and in truth. As I said, before we are born again, we cannot do that. I probably didn't say all that very good, but I gave it the old one two anyhow.  River | ||

I honestly think we're both saying the same thing. I mean if we don't have parts of God's Spirit in us then how can we be in His image. I think it has to be part of God's Spirit...but it is born with no spiritual connection to God...but is connected now to Satan. When we are Born from Heaven our Spiritual Connection is redirected to God...our true life is begun and we beginning to worship in Spirit and in truth whether we understand it to be so or not. | ||

Yep, we said the same thing. I think your strong reason why are good strong reasons. I want to note that when our spirits are re-directed toward God, at least most of the time our spirits are lifted toward God. We do get in 'the flesh' but we don't 'live' there whether we are conscious of it or not. River |
