Got my latest issue a couple days ago (free subscription.. I don't think I'd pay for that magazine). Cover story - "The Mormon Moment"..How the Outsider Faith Creates Winners. Article, written by a journalist who was "raised Mormon" talks about how many Mormons are in successful, high profile careers. They go on to call Mormonism the "GE of religions". It just goes to prove that you don't have to hide your identity to be successful as a religion, even on the fringe. The SDA excuse that "no one will listen to us if they know who we are" doesn't seem to fly when Mormons are not intimidated by such fears. Sadly, people are gullible no matter if you hide your identity or not, but I sure would have more respect for Adventist evangelism if they would at least go about it honestly. | ||

So interesting, Sondra. For sure the SDA excuse is just that...an excuse. Mormons haven't traditionally tried to hide within evangelicalism; they've always been a bit more clear on their identity, and Christians have been also. But Adventism...it seems there's always been at least some thread if doubt within Adventism that has caused them to both retain their uniqueness but also try to claim Christianity. But then, that very deception IS part of SDA identity... Colleen | ||

Oh so very true. And as I always ask my SDA friends, why are you so deceptive if you have the truth? Christianity survived it's earliest days, stating the truth when most would've lied starting at the witnesses at the tomb. And yet Christianity is more than alive...it is well. | ||

Colleen: I agree that the Mormons do not hide their identity. (I was a member of the Mormon church before becoming a born again christian). I have always wondered why SDAs hide their identity. | ||

After reading DM Canright's books, I'm positive that deception is part of the spirit of Adventism. Deception is in the very DNA of everything (and I hate to say everyone, but deception doesn't just happen without an agent) Adventist. | ||

. . . and the *agent* of deception is the *devil - the father of lies.* He does not speak truth. Those who are seduced into deceptive beliefs have fallen into the trap that Satan has set. Jesus talks about *the father of lies* in John 8:44 Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and now am here. I have not come on my own; but he sent me. Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. You belong to your father, *the devil*, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language for *he is a liar and the father of lies.* My husband was raised an SDA, then converted to Mormonism, but is now born again believer - follower of Jesus Christ. Through his journey of deprogramming from doctrines originating from *the father of lies* of both religions, God continues to be faithful in unraveling him from deceptive teachings. We believe it is so important to ask God for His discernment when reading the bible and ask Him to specifically remove the filters/glasses/veils like EGW/SDA ism, that have covered our spiritual eyes and mind. When deceptive ways that are common, tempt the mind to belief, God provides a way out as per 1Cor 10:13 (NIV) No temptation has seized you except what is common to man and God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. God gives us a sound mind as per 2Timothy 1:7 (NIV) For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power, of love and of a sound mind. God honors our sincerity in seeking His truth and He delivers us as per Psalm 34:17 (NIV) The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. Our mind’s can be renewed as per Romans 12:2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will. | ||

Clouwatcher, you stated that so well. I agree 100%. Obfuscate, deceive, "re-vision", deny, re-define, build arguments on false foundations, misuse Scripture, it's all part of the Adventist spirit. It makes me think, frankly, of 2 Thess. 2:11-12:
I know that, in context, Paul is speaking of the coming of the antichrist...but the strong delusion really seems to apply in the case of many Adventists. They desire to believe the lie. Grace wow---your husband must have woken have had a herd of cultists at his door trying to "win him back" I can't imagine what it would be like to jump from major cult to major cult. After leaving the SDA church I was briefly in the name it claim it/word of faith movement and it was quite damaging and I lost my bearings for a bit but God is good and doing a Philippians 1:6 in my life. I am so glad to hear God is redeeming the time your hubby has lost Enoch | ||

As I was reading everyone's post here I was also thinking of those other cults that come from the Advent Movement. Such as Jehovah's Witnesses, the Old Worldwide Church of God and it's splinter groups, who are all trying to give the appearance that they too are part of Christianity. All of them have some form of the seventh-day adventist church within them. |
